Product UpdateC175-16 Electric Power Package Isolator Installation Purpose This publication is to provide a basic understanding of the package isolator options for the C175-16 EP genset and to provide a guide for their installation. Isolator Locations For the C175-16 genset, the isolator locations are dependent on the generator frame size and radiator option. The locations are not dependent on the type of isolator. The diagrams below illustrate the dimensions to the center of each isolator. Dimensions from the center of the various isolators to the anchor points are provided in the sections of this document detailing each individual isolator option. Rubber Isolator Option The C175-16 offers the rubber puck style isolators offered on other generator set models. these rubber isolators are approximately 90% efficient at isolating vibration from the C175-16 genset. four different isolator options are offered. These options are the standard rubber “puck” isolators. When installed as intended. Washers are provided and are to be installed under each locknut. The locknuts can be tightened to hold the isolators in place so that the package can be lowered onto the isolators. and two seismic spring isolator options. the non-seismic spring isolators. 4. The leveling bolts are inserted through the holes in the base with the locknuts and washers in place and are threaded into the isolators.Product Update C175-16 Electric Power Package Isolator Installation Isolator Options For the C175-16 genset. The rubber isolators are installed by blocking the package several inches off the ground to allow access to align the isolators with the holes in the genset base. These isolators are easiest to install because they do not anchor to the foundation beneath the genset. 3. Each locknut should be threaded at least a third of the way up from the bottom of the leveling bolt. 6.Product Update C175-16 Electric Power Package Isolator Installation 5. 7. Each rubber isolator can accommodate up to 12. Care should be taken to ensure that the isolator isn’t adjusted further than 12. 8. recheck them to ensure that none of them have lifted from the foundation. an oversized washer.7 Max Spring Isolator Option The C175-16 continues to offer a high efficiency spring type isolator option similar to what was offered on previous models. and add about 130 mm to the height of the package. The isolator height is adjusted at the necessary locations by tightening the leveling bolt while keeping the locknut loose. These isolators are intended for installations that do not require seismic isolators but do require more vibration isolation than what is provided by the rubber isolators. Once the isolators have all been adjusted. and re-adjust as necessary. Finally tighten each locknut to 460 ± 60 N-m.7 mm of vertical misalignment. 53 Max 12. the locknuts should be loosened to allow the isolators to rest on the ground. such as 177-1452. these spring isolators are at least 95% efficient at isolating vibration from the C175-16 genset. If required. For any isolators not in firm contact with the foundation. When installed as intended. The leveling bolt is adjusted until the steel shell of the isolator comes firmly into contact with the bottom of the genset base and before the isolator begins to lift the package. can be added between the isolator and genset base at some of the isolator locations to take up additional misalignment. Seismic Spring Isolator Options The C175-16 also offers seismic rated spring type isolator options that can help enable the IBC 2006 compliance of the genset installation. these spring isolators are at least 95% efficient at isolating vibration from the C175-16 genset.5G seismic horizontal load. The isolators are installed by elevating the package to operating height and blocking it in place to allow access to align the isolators with the holes in the genset base. Each locknut should be threaded at least two thirds of the way up from the bottom of each leveling bolt. With the locknuts left loose. Check that the package is level and then remove the blocks. and the other isolator option is for installations requiring up to a 1. 2. tighten each locknut to 370 ± 50 N-m. Two different seismic ratings are provided. 6. When installed as intended. The diagram below provides the dimensions for the isolator base and mounting holes. One isolator option is for installations that require up to a 0. Finally. or otherwise mechanically restrained to limit lateral movement of the isolators. Washers are provided and are to be installed under each locknut.5G horizontal load. The leveling bolts are inserted through the holes in the base with the locknuts and washers in place and are threaded into the isolators until the bolt comes into contact with the spring pressure plate. The spring isolators should be anchored to the ground. 5. 7. Ensure that the springs are compressed evenly with no more than 5 mm in variation. the isolator height is adjusted by tightening each leveling bolt until the springs start to deflect and the genset begins to float freely on the springs instead of the blocks. This service is not provided by the Caterpillar factory. It is important to note that the proper installation of seismic mounts in itself does not provide IBC 2006 compliance.Product Update C175-16 Electric Power Package Isolator Installation seismic isolator. The travel stop nuts can be tightened enough to temporarily sandwich the spacer between the upper and lower housings. and each mounting nut is tightened to 460 ± 60 N-m. and the genset can be gently lowered into place. 10. The seismic isolators must be securely anchored to the foundation. Prior to installation. 3.5G isolator uses a pair of 8 mm spacers at each stud. 2. 5. 7.5G isolator uses one 8 mm thick spacer at each stud. each isolator is fastened to the genset base at the required locations with the provided hardware. The travel stop nuts should be backed off to provide the travel shown in the diagram above.Product Update Seismic Spring Isolator Installation C175-16 Electric Power Package Isolator Installation 1. Prior to removing any of the spacers. To aid in the installation. The isolators are installed by elevating the package above the height of the isolators and blocking it in place. ensure that all the spacers can be slid out and that all the springs are compressed evenly with no more than 5 mm in variation. The diagrams below provide the dimensions for the isolator mounting holes. LEXE0004-00 (09/08) . the mounting adapters have to be attached to the seismic mounts using the countersunk hardware provided. After the springs are properly adjusted. 6. 8. The mounting hardware is separate from the leveling hardware. the provided spacers are inserted between the upper and lower housings around each hold down stud. re-check that the travel stop nuts still provide the necessary travel shown above. while the 1. the seismic isolators can be suspended from the upper isolator housing.
