Page 2 . It not recommended that you put a shut off valve near the unit’s water inlet. food waste can cause the drain line to plug quickly. Connect the discharge outlet of the TUFF GUT to a 4 inch or larger overboard drain line and install a clean out (T) at rear of unit. Do not flush drain line thru grinder unit. 7. This could be left off when the unit is operating and water will not flow into unit causing problems. 8. Never grind food in the unit without water flowing thru it. Unit has an internal water solenoid valve that will open when the start button is pushed. This will cause the grind chamber and/or the drain line to plug up. Make sure you have approximately 100 psi potable water pressure at the water inlet connection.Plumbing Instructions 1. Disconnect your rear outlet to flush drain line. 6. CLEAN OUT your drain line regularly. 2. it must be completely cleaned out before installation. If connecting to an existing drain line. Connect a potable water line to the 1/2 inch NPT pipe fitting on the side of the unit. 5. Connect your 3 incoming power leads on the terminal strip at the bottom left of the control box.Electrical Installation The motor control box has been prewired to the disposer’s motor and solenoid valve and tested at the factory. Improper installation resulting in damage to the unit or accessories are not covered by the warranty. 5. Page 3 . All electrical connections must be made by experienced electricians in accordance to all applicable electrical codes. 4. Open the motor control box and check for supply voltage requirements. 3. 6. 1. Before closing control box recheck all connections. Feed incoming wires through a watertight fitting you install in the bottom of the control box. To reset wait 5 minutes. Be sure to check the unit and connect to appropriate voltage. Connect incoming grounding wire to the ground screw inside the control box. All that is necessary is to connect your incoming power to the terminal strip inside the control box. then sharply push the reset button on the overload. 7. Units must be permanently grounded using a grounding conductor run with the circuit conductors and connected to unit. 2. Make sure control box does not leak. The drive motor is protected with a resetable motor overload located in the control box. Units are shipped prewired for either 230 VAC or 460 VAC 3 Phase. Unit must be permanently grounded. Push start button and determine that the cutting elements turn and the water flows automatically into unit. 2.Test Procedure 1. 8. Check to be sure disposer’s cutting teeth are free of all foreign objects and will turn freely. 6. Turn on systems electrical power and water supply. 9. 4. This will cause the unit to plug-up. Never grind food in the unit without water flowing thru it. Check all mounting and water connections both outside and inside for leaks and tighten if necessary. Start and stop unit to check if auto reversing controls are properly operating. A 110 volt water solenoid valve is located inside unit. Water will start to flow immediately after pushing start button. 3. If disposer fails to operate properly: a) Check wiring connections b) Determine if Reset overload has tripped—reset if necessary. Inspect all components and connections for possible shipment damage. Page 4 . Make sure all electrical and plumbing connections are tight and properly installed. Close and seal unit’s motor control box door before turning on power to unit. 5. This electrical solenoid valve controls water flow to grinding chamber. 7. water must be flowing thru unit or it will stop-up. glass or plastic bags into unit. WARNING 1. Check for water flow thru unit. 4. Stop unit and remove foreign object. 3. 5. 2. wait 5 minutes before resetting. Allow unit to run for 3 minutes after all food has been ground-up to flush unit. 5. don’t overload unit. Push stop button when grinding is complete. 2. 6.OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Instruct all personnel in the correct operating procedure. If unit jams. 1. Never operate unit with safety guards removed. 4. Check bottom mounted bearing for water contamination. 4. Do not try to unstop drainline thru the unit. Disconnect unit from drain line and clear blockage. c. Part Number. Do not over tighten cogged belt. Water must be flowing thru unit when in operation. Page 6 . it is probably plugged. Check for drain line blockage. replace if needed. Check Monthly 1. 3. loose belt or motor noise occurs. replace them. 3. Do not use high pressure water to flush the grind chamber. (Order Cutting Kit.. If any unusual noises. 5. If worn or broken. If unit is grinding slowly or drain line stops up regularly. Inspect cogged belt for wear and tension.) Check your drain line for blockage.MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS Check with every use 1. grinding elements could be worn and need to be replaced. Do not run unit if your drain line is blocked. Inspection condition of grinding elements and shredder ring. such as worn bearings. this will ruin the shaft seals/bearings.) Repack/replace top shaft bearing assembly. b. Grease the bottom mounted grinder drive shaft bearing with high quality bearing grease via the zert on the bearing. REPLACE ALL GRIND COMPONENTS YEARLY.
