©gaya travel sia.co m w w w. Your indispensible guide to gay Bangkok, one of the best gay destinations in Asia. Look for the taxis queue. Go to the official taxi booth where you will be asked your destination (in English) and assigned to a taxi by a dispatcher. The dispatcher will give you a ticket with the taxi’s registration number written on it. Keep this in case you have a complaint or if you accidently leave something in the car. In addition to the fare on the meter, there is an airport surcharge of 50 baht and expressway tolls of 65 baht. The total cost, including the surcharge and tolls is likely to be around 300 to 400 baht depending on downtown destination. Some drivers may ask for toll money in advance so have some small change available (such as a 100 baht note). Journey time can be anything between 40 minutes and 2 hours depending on the traffic conditions. Most taxis do not have seat belts and are driven very fast. Luggage space in the trunk is usually limited as most taxis are fitted with an LPG tank. AOT Official Airport Limo Service - Recommended for first time visitors. Look for the official AOT service desks in the baggage hall of the arrivals area. The price for a standard salon starts at 1000 baht to downtown Bangkok including motorway tolls. Pay at the AOT service desk and receive an official receipt. You will be escorted to your car. Generally higher driving standards and seat beats! Avoid all others trying to sell taxi or limo services. Airport Link – Two train services operate from the airport to downtown Bangkok. Express trains take 15 minutes to travel non-stop to Makkasan Station in the city (which has a connection with the MRT). An express train ticket costs 150 baht. From Makkasan, get a taxi to your hotel. A surprisingly inconvenient option, particularly if you have a lot of luggage. City trains make seven stops, takes 30 minutes, but continues on one stop to Payathai – which has a more useful direct interchange with BTS Skytrain. A City train to Payathai costs 45 baht could be a convenient option if you are travelling light. 2 Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) The airport consists of a single terminal building with seven connected concourses. There can be quite a long walk from your gate to the arrival area. International Flights Prior to landing, you will be given an immigration form and customs declaration to complete, so keep a pen, your passport and note of your hotel address within easy reach. After disembarking the airplane, follow the signs to luggage reclaim. You will eventually arrive at the immigration area. Expect queues during busy periods. Present your immigration card and passport to an officer. First and business class passengers should turn right to the VIP immigration desks. Immediately behind immigration is the baggage reclaim area. Locate your luggage and proceed through customs. Custom officers randomly select bags to be put through an x-ray machine. HOT TIP - There are TWO exits from custom into the arrival area: Exit B and C. If you are meeting someone, agree in advance which exit you will use. A ‘Meeting Point’ is signposted in the arrival area; however, this is located further down the terminal building and not particularly convenient for international passengers. Domestic After disembarking, follow the signs to luggage reclaim. Collect your bags and exit to the arrival area. You will pass through Exit A. Sky Train The fastest and most comfortable way to travel around the city centre – particularly during rush hour. agree on a price before boarding. Buses Bangkok has an extensive bus network but drivers usually only speak Thai. Economical and more convenient than buying single tickets.
