The reinforced conical lid is fitted with a safety valve, opens completely and is quick and easy to close. A thick silicone gasket makes it fully watertight. The wax is heated both from below and at the sides by bringing the water in the jacket to the boil. Heating can be done in two ways, either by a butane or propane gas burner (supplied at extra cost) or by electricity (please specify). HOW IT WORKS: the steam rising from below gets into the comb and works its way through to the other side. The wax is rendered down by the flow of steam, it becomes purified and it is drawn off perfectly clean by the siphon at the bottom of the tank. It can be set in a mould immediately. Wax melting-tanks are designed to render either bits of comb or the comb on complete frames (takes approximately 10 Dadant hive-body frames) without having to remove it first, this way the combs can be melted down without removing to the wires. Weight 8.5 kg Butane or propane 876 Price each A beekeeping enterprise, whatever its size, should never overlook the individual components which make up its strength: changing queens, appropriate feeding, compulsory treatments and renewal of wax foundation. This last point should not be neglected as the vigour and health of a colony depend on it. The vast majority of beekeepers settle for exchanging their wax, which comes from either melted down honeycomb or cappings, against sheets of foundation. However, the present trend, towards a more economical system of management and full traceability of products, has led to a number of beekeepers, both professionals and hobbyists, investing in their own equipSMALL ENTERPRISES This range of equipment is specially designed for small beekeeping ventures and organisations working for developing countries. A wooden board, of the right size, soaked in water and then dipped into melted wax ment to produce their wax foundation in a controlled environment. Others, such as organic beekeepers, who are subject to strict rules, have also created their own wax foundation workshops. Finally, in the search for a greater range of products, a few keen producers are increasing sales by producing sections of honey in the comb. If like them, you would like to know exactly where your foundation wax comes from and be able to control aspects such as colour and thickness, you will find among the following products the right tools to suit the size and requirements of your beekeeping venture. is all that is required to produce smooth sheets of wax. These are then squashed between two rubber cell-patterned moulds by running a "pastry" roller back and forth - a small investment for a big result and so easy to use. Synthetic foundation maker Comprises 2 rubber moulds + roller + clips 1409 780 cells per dm2 (for European bees) Weight 1.2 kg 14091 550 cells per dm2 (drones) Weight 1.7 kg 14092 1000 cells per dm2 (African bees) Weight 1.7 kg Although this foundation maker has a better hourly output than the previous equipment, it remains easy to use and look after. With a density of 780 cells per dm2, it can be used to make sheets of foundation wax for European bees. The special synthetic finish on the two sheets of cell moulds means it can be used without any solvents. The result is dry sheets of foundation resistant to mould. A detailed instruction sheet explains everything from the installation of the cold water circuit to tips which will allow you to produce 60 sheets an hour. Wax melting-tank Manual foundation maker, water cooled Dimensions: 565 x 640 mm. Weight 19 kg. The mould is delivered ready to attach with a 15 mm hose. Accessories supplied: 1 brush, 1 spatula, 1 pouring cup, clip with flexible hose. Wax tank with electrically heated water-jacket. This melting-tank lets you render down your wax quickly and keeps it liquid for making sheets of foundation using the water cooled foundation maker. 7018 Dadant size 26 x 41 cm Dimensions: 490 x 470 x 280 mm. Weight 13.5 kg. 7019 Langstroth size 20 x 41.5 cm Dimensions: 410 x 470 x 250 mm. Weight 13 kg 10998 Water filled water-jacket. Single-phase 220V – 3000W 2778 Oil filled water-jacket (delivered without oil). Holds 8 litres of oil. Single-phase 220V – 750W LARGE SCALE ENTERPRISES The first step which has to be taken before making foundation by any procedure is to produce the cleanest possible blocks of beeswax. This can be partly achieved once the cappings and old comb rendered down in one of our wax melting-tanks (see page 4) have set in the moulds. Any debris on the bottom of the block of wax can be scraped off. A word of advice: if after scraping the wax blocks still seem full of impurities, you can always render them down in the melting-tank a second time. The next step in purifying wax requires several hours or even days in a settling tank like the one in the picture. Impurities are usually heavier than wax and drop to the bottom of the tank. A judicious system of three taps on different levels allows you to draw off the wax starting by the highest tap. Foundation making can start once these first steps have been completed. Settling tank with oil-filled water jacket This tank is used to settle and purify crude wax before milling and has an oil-filled water-jacket. Electric heating is done by 2 x 2000W immersion heaters, thermostat controlled with digital display. Capacity: 270 kg of wax – three-phase 380V It has a lid and three taps to draw off wax. Comes without oil for the jacket - holds 80 litres of oil. 874 Price each Dimensions: Ø 900 – height 1410 mm – weight 107 kg 3246 Wax mould for rolling machines Rolling Machines Designed for high production output, this first machine prepares the work for the second machine in the following picture. The blocks of wax are first softened by soaking in warm water and then sent once or several times (depending on their initial thickness) through the smooth adjustable rollers of this machine to thin them out. It is a very robust unit. The rollers, which are engraved with great precision to produce 780 cells per dm2, are made of synthetic material to make for easy work and reduced costs. It is true that making original candles offers beekeepers another way of recycling their batches of beeswax in a profitable way. Candle sales can increase profits considerably. Making candles is technically very simple. Wax tank for candle making Tank with thermostat controlled water-jacket. This tank melts wax quickly so that you can obtain perfect quality candles. A wax tank for candle making: a simple and economical way of using up your batches of unused crude wax. Another use: this tank can also be used to fix foundation to frames. It is also advisable to place a sheet of this type of foundation in production hives to trap the eggs laid by female Varroa. the foundation produced by this method is very brittle. The other procedure consists of pouring the melted wax straight onto the foundation rollers. was one of the first manufacturers of foundation wax.
