Republic of the Philippines Eastern Visayas State University Tacloban City College of Engineering Information Technology Department ThesisOutline and Guidelines School Year 2004-2005 (Note: this condensed instruction manual was prepared by the IT Department Advisers of IT41TL & IT481L for the exclusive use of EVSU IT students only) I. Documentation Guidelines 1.1 Measurements and style: a. paper size – white standard short bond paper size 8.5” x 11” b. hard bound book cover c. cover color motif and letter print - golden yellow book color with silver letter print and 14 font size. d. margins bottom 1.0”. e. font style body text and headings – Arial f. body text font size – the general font size in the main document text is 12 g. page number – all pages except the chapter pages shall be chronologically numbered. The number page shall be situated at the top right corner of every page h. no page number for chapter pages is provided i. line (sentence) spaces – double space five (5) sentences only k. indentations – single tab space must be provided before every beginning of a paragraph j. each paragraph must contain at least four (4) but not more than - left margin = 1.5”, right margin 1.0”, top margin 1.0”, l. Main title headings should be in upper case in bold letters (e.g. METHODOLOGY) m. Chapter headings will be in normal format in bold letters(e.g. Chapter V) n. sub-title or sub headings should be written in italics (e.g. Related Literature) o. appendices, exhibits, annexes for the tables, data flow diagram, systems flowchart, HIPO, graph, figures, illustrations, cost estimates etc. shall not be included in the main body of the manuscript. They are labeled (titles), and numbered with page numbers and arranged as separate reference pages p. footnotes style = journalistic technique (running footnotes) q. reference materials = must have at least have 10 (ten) reference materials (books or e-books (web source) unpublished/published manuscripts, magazines etc.) II. Manuscript Proper (Main body) The main body of the manuscript consists of planned dissections of the research paper. It discusses in chronology the pertinent segments of the conduct of the research. The following items consists the outline of the content of the respective chapters (at least 8-11 pages): 1. Chapter I – INTRODUCTION – (one or two pages) the first page must contain the general view of ICT as an applied science focusing specifically on the system under study vis-à-vis the technology being proposed. This chapter likewise includes the following discussions: a. Background of the Study– (two pages) the second and third pages must include the brief history/origin of the agency identified in the study such as the type of business organization e.g. partnership, corp., or sole proprietorship, the nature of the business, location and a brief general description of the system of the agency under study. This portion also explains briefly why and how would they be benefited. c. The following items forms part of the chapter (at least 12-14 pages). b. a. Significance of the Study – (two-three pages) identifies at least five or more sectors/persons/organizations/institution etc. Objective of the Study – (one or half page) states in a single statement the general and specific objectives of the research proposal. It also identifies and explains the limitations of the study. Scope and Limitations – (two-three pages) this section discusses in details what are the specific coverage of the study. d. e. Statement of the Problem – (one or half page) this portion states clearly the general problem of the study.1 Description of the Current System . The combined related studies or literary citations must not be less than eight (8). Theoretical Framework – (two-three pages) this section cites the details of the input-process-output research model. 2. Documentation of Current System – (one page) this section briefly states the general operation of the current system. It specifically explains how the specific technology or software/system would complement the processes involved in the development of the proposed program. It explains how the current system works and is operated. It presents the specific challenges broken down into detailed sub problems. that would benefit in the study.(two pages) this section discusses in details the mechanics of the current practice. Chapter II – METHODOLOGY – (one page) this section presents briefly the research techniques and procedures used in the conduct of the study. Review of Related Literature – (minimum of four pages) this section presents discussions about the citations of the related/parallel studies conducted and or the related literatures available that would help enrich the understanding of the study being conducted. This portion explains the data flow diagram of the current system. This segment explains the systems flowchart of the current system. c. It specifically asserts the advantages of the proposal in quantifiable terms and other important features as an expected outcome. c. .b. (one-two pages) this portion explains data. including the instruments used if any (statistical). Data Gathering Procedure .4 over-all analysis of the proposed system (two pages). This segment presents the general analysis of the research proposal. Chapter III – REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS SPECIFICATIONS-(one or half page) this portion introduces the contents of this chapter. 3. tables and chairs. 4. This chapter provides the detailed explanation of the following (at least 6-8 pages): 3.(one-two pages or depending upon the HIPO) this section discusses the HIPO (Hierarchical Input Process Output) of the proposed system. voltage requirement.1 System Design Specification . It explains the result of the activities found in other chapters especially chapter II (Methodology). .1. 3. 3.3 result and explanation of the data gathered and its analysis (onetwo pages).c. Chapter IV – SYSTEM REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATION – (one or half page) this chapter explains the physical deployment of the system. it explains what method was used and why was it employed as it data gathering technique.g.2.1. It shall answers the following questions: What was the finding of the study? How was the problem solved? What has been done? 3. lightings etc. office space and size.2 Personnel/Equipment used by the Current System – (two pages) this section discusses the personnel involved related to its number (how many people) and the specific details of their jobs relative to the current system under study. It is the most critical presentation of the study. How was the objective accomplished? 3.1. This portion explains the data flow diagram and the system flowchart of the proposed system.1 answers and explanation to the Statement of the Problem (onetwo pages). d.1. It discusses the optimum physical environment (e.) and the software and hardware specifications required of the proposed system.2 answers and explanation to the Objectives of the Study (one-two pages). It also discusses in particulars how the process was administered. Chapter V . It discusses the tasks of the personnel involved and the number of persons required. 5.2 Software Requirements – (one page) this portion specifies the technical requirement of the specific software needed. It shall include in the discussion the effectiveness.4.1 Hardware Requirement – (one page) this section discusses technically the specific hardware specifications.J. including the specific task and number of items/units to be utilized. The segment discusses also the capability of the system for future upgrade. Prepared by: J. 5. JUSTIFICATION (one pages) this chapter has two parts that should be introduced briefly in this section. This portion discusses the necessary measures or steps to be undertaken in order to be able to make the crucial systems deployment. It likewise specifies the necessary details of the training and or the needed skills vital to the proper execution of their designated tasks. its purposes including the specific functions and number of items/units to be used. 4.3 Human Resources Complement – (one or half page) this segment imparts the role of the manpower requirement of the systems.(one or half page) this portion cites the compelling reasons for the deployment of the system based on the findings of the study.E.
