December 10, 2003 - 8:42 PM - after several days of work and neglecting this timeline, I have completed the walkthrough, though it is missing three runes. ______________________________________________ | | |(B) PRELIMINARY INFORMATION (B)| |______________________________________________| **************** * BACKGROUND * **************** This game is modeled after the book of the same name written by J.R.R. Tolkien. The book is a prelude to the famous Lord of the Rings trilogy made even more popular by the incredible movies that are based on them. The story follows Bilbo on an adventure that traces his acquisition of the One Ring, which comes to be the focus of the trilogy. His adventure begins one day when he is greeted by the wizard Gandalf and later a gang of dwarves who seek his aide. They desire to return to the Lonely Mountain, which was once theirs, and take it, and the treasures within, back from the dragon who took it over. Bilbo, they believe, will be perfect for stealing back the mountain treasures. ************* * CONTROLS * ************* To go back down. during game play. though short and plump. To climb cliffs. access sound options. Pressing down will cause him to hop back down. enabling him to sneak past others. ********** * BASICS * ********** Bilbo. R . certain cupboards. He is also an accurate rock thrower. Select . is astoundingly agile. B .the R button alternates between normal walking mode and stealth mode. pass through dialog. approach them an d continue pushing the up directional button. and pushing the up button again will make him jump up onto the platform. approach the ledge and press down. Bilbo will automatically grab the ledge. doors.D-Pad .the L button utilizes the item equipped in the L slot. your character walks slowly and quietly. which allows you to resume play. and pull switches/open doors/etc. Bilbo has the ability to turn in increments of 45 degrees. buttons.the B button utilizes the item equipped in the B slot. and hopping onto ledges that are several feet above his head. go to your last save point. This item can be changed by accessing your satchel (pressing select). Pressing the left or right directional buttons will make him shimmy across the ledge. allowing you to use and equip items. . and can use small explosives. aslo. and doors. and chests is accomplished by pressing the A button while within a certain proximity of the item. He cannot however swim. Bilbo will automatically jump. Start . When in stealth mode. A . it can be equipped by accessing your satchel. The same button is used to engage in conversation with other characters. so he must stay in shallow water. He can swing a sword or walking stick. buttons. he can use his agility to be very sneaky and move without a sound to go unnoticed.the start button pauses the game and brings up the game options menu. He is capable of climbing vines. This item can be changed by accessing your satchel (pressing select). or enter sleep mode. chests. When he chooses to. Sometimes he finds things in or under the jar or rock. it will go into the L slot and. Aside from this. By pressing A near a jar or special kind of rock (the light gray circular ones). Likewise for when you press B. Operating switches. shimmying across. It is used to confirm menu choices.the directional buttons move your character and move through menu choices. To jump a gap. be used when you press L.the select button accesses your satchel. grabbing. and pressing either L or B. Bilbo can pick it up and throw it as a weapon. If you press L. approach the gap and continue running in the direction you'd like to jump. using the directional buttons to highlight it.the A button is the action button. When you acquire a weapon. from which you can move just as previously described. putting you into the hanging position. and dropping down from incredibly high cliffs. Bilbo can operate switches. L . talking to the old woman beforehand if you so choose. Use the A button to open the chest in the left side of the room to find some meat. south. and into the bedroom. The term back wall indicates that the wall located in the upper portion of the screen is being spoken of. Also. so the one I name may be incorrect at times. a hilly region of Middle-Earth inhabited by hobbits. When you gain control of Bilbo. you are saving your game. he will charge up. Each room or scene of the game has a set number of enemies.its jus t because the game randomly picks what enemies appear to shake things up and increase the games replay value. Next. There is an old lady blocking your passage to the right. defeating monsters. and left. Any other terms that are confusing may be inquired about through e-mail. After the conversation. Exit the bedroom and head left. you will probably be facing an animal of equal strength to the one I name. east. right.Bilbo also has a special move. so there won't be any problems fighting them that won't be addressed in the walkthrough. Your character.. To do so. In the next area. Bilbo will have the opportunity to record information in his journal. respectively. and navigating mazes. is conversing with the wizard Gandalf. I mean for the player to kill all enemies and smash all jars that are located within a room or area. this is a save point and should be used to give you a place to start from later. a hobbit will be playing with fireworks. I don't want to receive e-mails telling me I put a rat in a room where you faced a bat. By doing so. I must use directional terms. Equip the fireworks and place one on top of the boards you see in the left side of the . He will proceed to give you five of them.* ******** Through the following walkthrough I will be explaining the methods for solving puzzles. exit the house completely. and west may be used to refer to up. not the direction the character is facing. the terms north. down. Letting go of the B button will send him tumbling forward. By saying clear the room.. so go left. but those enemies can be any of the monsters available in that portion of the game. Along the way. He is fully charged once two rings of power are surrounding him. Bilbo. damaging any enemies he touches. To avoid ambiguity. continuing north through the next screen. Bilbo goes into his house. performing tasks. If the B button is held. go north into the next room. ______________________________________________ | | |(C) WALKTHROUGH (C)| |______________________________________________| ************* * THE SHIRE * ************* The game begins in the Shire. ******** * MISC. Any time you see an open book floating in a green circle. In the middle of the back wall of this room is a cupboard that contains some meat. If it is. all directions will be in reference to the screen. . As a reward you will be given some meat. After receiving your reward. ************* * LONE-LANDS * ************* After having traveled the Great East Road. Clear the area quickly to avoid being hurt. so equip your walking stick to the B slot (or L slot if you prefer). Go up the stairs and talk to the man by the fence for another quest: destroy the jars in h is yard. head to the right. Enter it and talk to t he woman inside. allowing you t . If you want more items. shallow water) and push it onto dry ground by walking right into it. climb the two cliffs on the back wall of the well. You'll have to use yo ur walking stick to kill the rat ahead.lovely. In this area. you don't actually have to do them). To return to the surface. The medicine Grandmother Boffin needs is in a cupboard in the upper left corner of the room. Here you will recieve your first weapon. a walking stick. Pressing A again will throw the jar in the direction you are facing. she gives you a piece of meat and tells you to eat it to heal yoursel f. Enter the room to the north. you should to around to the left side of the cart (careful to stay in the light blue. Sneak past the sleeping dog and open the gate to the south. as the house in the upper left corner of the area does not serve any purpose other than distraction and time consumption.screen. Go outside and return to your home. To make up for it. who will eat supper and leave you with the dished (don't worry. just like a majority of this unduly lengthy sentence.. the group is forced off by a flood and must travel through the forest and the ruins contained in it. Being a friendly hobbit. when you speak to her. exit your house. you can enter his house and come back out to find the jars have returned.. continuing right on the path previously blocked by the old lady. there is a home in the upper right corner. there is an old woman who. When you get out of bed.. From the start. She will blow up a firecracker in your face. Walk up to a jar and put it on your head by pressing A. Take the medicine back to Grandmother Boffin and she will give you the key to the chest located in the lower left corner of the room you found the medicine in. Talk to the people inside to find out that a bunch of dwarves are headed to your house. One or two hits will do it. Enter it and you will be greeted by a swarm of dwarves and Gandalf. Once you have destroyed all the jars. th e man will give you some meat. Move up from the well and open the round brown door to enter the home of Grandmother Boffin. Enter the well after the explosion to find a chest containing a shield rune. Head back to the Green Dragon Inn. Sometimes an item wil l fall from the jar when you pick it up. Here you will face your first enemies. Sh e asks you to find her medicine. Exit the area to the right and enter the Green Dragon Inn. Go back outside and return to Bilbo's house. In the next area. She is sick in bed in the right side of the first room. informs you that her cart is stuck in the mud.the man really needs a trash can or something. take the path to the north. Exit the house and press R when you reach the bottom of the stairs. saving on the way out of your bedroom. hop down the cliff just past the entrance. climb up the platform that rose up and exit the area. The dots on the floor are holes from which spikes will emerge. Hop off the cliff and exit the area to the right. which causes you to take a huge fall (trust me on this). Cross the shallow water. but go south instead of into the hole. There are many ways to do so. Continue u p the path killing each of the creatures you encounter.its your choice. Obviously. From here. you can reset it by going back outside and coming in again. you must push the four blocks onto the spaces. In this area you will find a puzzle.o continue north. and finally the lower left block down and over into the bottom spot. the lower right block into the right spot. Climb down the cliff again. killing the rats as you go. entering the next room and killing the attacking bat. there is a small dark hole that you must climb into in order to enter the ruins and get around the deep water. Then walk over the small crack in the right side of the screen. start swinging his walking stick. In the wall. move him to the right and climb up another ledge. You have to go in front of the tree to get around it and for your trouble you will get a pile of fire crackers. When you land you'll have the choice between two switches. In the next area. Kill the creatur es in this room and out through the other side. Climb down the two ledges and kill the hornet that attacks you. You are told to search the ruins to the north. If you look carefully. To get by you must press R and sneak across. When in the ruins. Here. careful not to drift off too far to the right or left and drown. As so . but if you manage to. Enter the dark hole in the cliff to the left of the screen. Exit the area to the right. because he'll be fac ing two bats and a rat at once. go up to the back wall and climb down the ledge. which will increase your H P capacity by 5 and fully heal you. into the outlined spot. the other drops a rock on your head. walk to the upper left corner to lure the bat out so you won't have to fight him on the spikes. In it you will find a life rune. Continue north once all this is done with. Here you can open the chest you once had to ignore. Thorin and the other dwarves will ask you to find something that can get them through the rocks that are blocking the way. In the next area. Follow the path as it tur ns to the right.. The left one raises a platform that allows you to continue on. Take out the two creatures on the platform and exit to the south. Before doing so. I don't think there is a way to mess the puzzle up and cause it to be impossible to complete. Here lies another rock puzzle and its even simpler than the previous one. there is a chest behind the tree to the left. ignoring the chest on top of the cliff for now. climb up the ledge above Bilbo. You'll have to kill the bug on your way. but I tend to push the upper right block into the top spot first. Another rat and a hornet must be killed before you can proceed. and kill the rat in your path. As soon as Bilbo hits the ground. then the upper left block over and down into the left spot. There are fou r moveable rocks on the ground and four outlines spaces. Push the rock all the way to the right side of the screen. Once you solve the puzzle. Kill the two bats i n the cave and smash the jar. so climb the ledge and walk into the ruins. walk around to the front of the ruins. Climb the platform and the next cliff.. To the right of the statue's spot is a l edge. Now backtrack all the way outside where you are told to search the ruins to the south since you did not find anything that will help destroy the rocks. a rock falls on your head. climb the p latform.. You'll hear a peculiar sound once the third statue is i n place. but before climbing the platform. flip the switch. take out the creatures and then push the statue into its proper place. Jump onto it. walk over a bridge. climb the platform you raised with the puzzle. Equip the thunderclaps in your secondary weapon slot. Kill all the enemies and smash al l the pots in this area. and open a chest to find the tinder and flint for making fire. Climb down and head west. In this room. and finally flip the one in the middle . Hurry back to the main room and kill the bats and rats again. To get past the water.kill the bats. Continue on to the southeast until you reach a wall. Follow the path to the southeast and go through the door to the dilapidated castle. and push the statue into place. so be sure to face the rocks. a bunch of bats will mysteriously appear and attack. Go to the right from here and down a small cliff. Here Bilbo must use his muscle to push the large statue in the right side of the screen all the way to the upper left corner of the screen. allowing you to climb up the remnants. Go around the wall and climb down one of the two cliffs where you will be faced with four hornets. Once they are defeated. Cross the bridge and open the chest. Here you will find two ledges to climb and another statue to put in place. First. Head north through the hole you created and save your game. Run to the right once more and climb the cliff to the north. Place one in front of the cracked rocks above the dwarves. Follow the dwarf south and climb down the cliff. Same deal. Head to the northeast. into the outlined spot. In the upper right corner of the building there is a n extremely damaged stretch of wall. Follow the dwarf out and then take the left path.on as you do. Thunderclaps fire in the direction you are facing when you place them. Fire a thunderclap at it to knock down parts of the wall. Here you will find three switches. It flies out from one of the four . Now go through the door that opened up. After they are dead you will encounter your first boss fight. at which point.. Approach them slowly so they attack one at a time. All three switches must be flipped to operate the bridge. head north. Follow this path around the wall and into the ruins. climb up and push another statue over the small wooden bridge and into the outlined spot. but if they are flipped in the wrong order. flip the one closest to the door . then take the right path out. Kill the bats t hat appear. Bilbo will have to make his first jump. keeping your walking stick equipped in the other. O nce you do this. At the top. flip the switch to the right of it. killing whatever gets in your way. Run northwest in the next area and you will come upon a cliff short enough for little Bilbo to climb. next flip the one farthest from the door. follow it to the left where you will find a shallow area that you can walk over. Here you must climb up the two ledges on the back wall and press A next to the braziers. kill the enemy up there. Boss Fight: Large Hornet This is a really easy boss with a simple pattern. but the part along the back wall of the hill is small enough for him to safely hop across. Gandalf tricks the trolls into arguing until daylight. if you can. keep you from getting hit. so it will take quite a few hits to finish him off. First. a platform is raised to the north. After they claim their swords. The easiest way to beat the hornet is to stand in the muddy portion of ground in the middle of the field and run five or six steps in the direction the hornet is flying (left or right). approach the swords and barrels. Once its clear. They tell you to search the area for the troll cave and to look under rocks. bridges the gap in the castle.corners of the screen in a straight line towards Bilbo. No matter what you do. Clear the room of enemies and proceed to the right. Kill the enemies on your side of the river. This reveals a hole that you can enter. This will send him backwards and. Luckily. . get on the left side of the large fl at topped rock. You'll s ee a stone like the ones used in puzzles. When you have crossed. Bilbo decides to pickpocket them. climb the cliff along the back wall. In the next area. Talk to Gandalf and the two dwarves. Climb down the castle wall and cross the water. To get to the wolf on the other side of the gaping hole in the ground. When the large hornet is destroyed. This will prompt Gandalf and Thorin to enter. flip the switch on the back wall next to the ditch. In this room you find a chest containing thunderclaps. equip your sword in place of your walking stick. Once back in the main cave. The dwarves come to help you. Go back north and climb the short cliff there. Return to the first room of the cave and go through the newly opened door in the upper left corner. enter the small hole in the upper left corner of the room to get a skill rune and more thunderclaps. if timed correctly. The bug has around 25 hit points. Clear this room also. Return to the treasure room and place a thunder clap in front of the small knife hanging on the wall in the upper right corner of the room and claim the knife as your sword. At the top. Push the block up then over so it doesn't get stock on the rock formations. and push it into the water. Walk onto the rock and. Use it and several other ledges to scale the castle wall. walk to the northeast. you get caught. so follow his order and go east. causing them to turn to stone. Push it to receive a key. Clear this room and push the puzzle rock. A portion of it is too large for Bilbo to jump. When you enter this room. After getting these. there is a switc h that raises a wall to stop you from leaving. and lower s a bridge across the waters below. To the right is a gap in the ground. This will bring out a bridge for you to cross. but they are captured. Use the vines like a ladder to climb the hillside and enter the door at the top of the h ill. and swing at him. You discover the light to be coming from a campfire made by three trolls. ************ * THE WILD * ************ You start out surrounded by enemies. turn. Thorin will tell you to investigate the strange light ahead. climb up and out of the hole usin g the cliffs on the back wall of the cave. run south past the trolls. so battle yourself to loneliness on your isolated bit of ground. Climb another cliff. Push the stone from the lower portion of the screen onto the green button near the entrance. into the old man's bedroom. There is an old man standing in this area. When you approach them. there are only two rats inside. he will get mad. at whic h point you should run around once more. There are three rats in the room. Here you have your next boss figh t. Go south. Shortly. Proceed to hop the rest of the water and exit the area to the right. Press the corresponding button to bring up the aimer and release it to through in that direction. You will find Gandalf here and he will teach you how to throw rocks. avoid the shadows that appear below as they fall. six more. in front of his head. Return to the main room and go to the left. and exit to the south. Head south until you reach a cliff. Head right and save your game at the partially hidden save point. killing him. To hurt the octopus. place them in the weapon slot that isn't taken up by your sword. but do not let go of the ledge before shimmying to the right as far as you can. he will get so angry that he will cause a number of rocks to fall on his own head. In the next room. Take the life rune from the chest. Down the cliff is the old man 's cottage. around the path and jump the gap. kill the enemies. Boss Fight: Octopus This is a pretty interesting fight. will jump out. come out from the walls. go in for the attack. and exit to the left. He may hit you with his tentacles. and swing your sword as much as you can. and flip the switch on the wall near the e xit. kill the enemy there and jump into the hole. "Use Elrond's name to cros s the bridge. but don't flip the switch. On this platform you'll find a canyon fit for a hobbit-siz . When you drop down. Talk to him and he'll give you a key to his house. To avoid the rocks. they scurry into a nearby piece of furniture.kill the animal on the other side while standing on it. Swing your sword at the furniture and the rat. asking you to clear his home of rats. The old man will tell you an important secret. along with several buddies. but pay no attention until rocks fall again. Go north. the final wave. Climb down the cliff. but he happens to be causing rocks to fall. Go to the north of this area (don't try to jump the canyon stunt man ) and climb the cliff. killing two creatures. When the storm of rocks dies down. and the octopus raises his head again. cleari ng the area of resistance. Use the fallen sea monster's squishy head as a stepping stone to cross the water . four rats pop out of the left and right side walls. Getting hit by tentacles doesn't hurt you very much. Outside the cave. follow the thin grassy path to t he northeast. Here you must kill three creatures to open the door that you need to take (its in the south). Exit using the cliff on the left. When you enter the home. Go back left and cross the river again. stand at the edge of t he shallow water. When you defeat these. save your game. Eventually. Foll ow the cave path. When these ar e sliced and diced." Return to the area where you met the old man. duck his head down (making him invincible) and start swinging his octet of arms about wildly. Go through the door to the north and clear this room of rats. When he gives you the rocks. and tap B. as you have plenty of time to complete this game and you only need 10. Follow the white sidewalk to the right of the house's entrance this time. Go north and walk onto the bridge. The object of the game is to get all of the sheep in the pen. Within the amount of time given. Go to the left and go through the door to find food. Aside from three monsters. If you win. Dismount at the end and climb the long staircase to the right. climb down the front edge and keep walking left until the path turns up to the northwest. Elven Target Practice Talk to the elf at the end of the path and he will let you play this game. Walk across the bridge and approach Gandalf. When the targets pop up. In this cave are two chests containing meat and thunderclaps. lives.. and go left again. There's a monster in the upper right corner hidden by the tree. Take the path to the right. Elven Sheep Herding Return to the entrance of Elrond's house and go down the stairs. After clearing the area. Now go to the upper right corner of the screen and use a fire cracker to burn down the dead vines covering a cave. At the end of the sidewalk.ed daredevil like yourself. press up to aim. shoot them from right to left by taking 1-2 steps to the left. which is your limit. and thunderclaps. you get some stones. the letters D-O-L-N-E-R and the option to go back or exit. If you make a mistake. Dismount onto the next platform and crawl down the other set of vines. ************** * RIVENDELL * ************** Rivendell is an elven city where Elrond. Return to the house of Elrond. the elven king. Run to the southeast. Go to the left to get the chest that once tempted you. Go south and talk to the elf surrounded by sheep. The sling throws stones the same way you were taught to through rocks. Play the game until you have 20 stones. These tend to have numerous tokens. Use the sword to highlight the letters E-L-R-O-N-D in that order (remember the old man's secret?). At the end of the row.I don't know its significance or what it is. its easy to accumulate over 20 hits. This lowers the road block and lets you pass. Exit the area to the right. which is in the . spring water. Go left on the white sidewalk. a sling is placed in your B weapon slot. use a thunderclap on the north wall next to the tree where there are cracks. The key is not to rush. This brings up a screen with six dots. use back to back up a letter. Take the path to the north. pressing A at the roadblock. Use a thunderclap on the cracked wall of the rock wall to the north. Continue on the water and climb the cliffs next to the waterfalls until you are out of the area.. Return to the top of the staircase. Get out of the wel l climb down from the cliff. return to the right side. Follow the shallow water around the island and save your game. Follow Elrond and Gandalf out the door to the south and outside. there are nine rocks in this area to look under. aligning your self with a target. Climb onto the vines and crawl to the right. Climb the cliff in the n orth of this area and hop into the well to get some thunderclaps. When you agree to play. Take the skill rune inside and exit. This is a pretty tough game to beat. ignoring Bilbo's request to linger in the lovely land of the Elves a bit longer. Use them to enter the cave suspended above your head. Climb the vines to the far left of the elf. and jump the gap. Avoid getting the sheep in corners and do not let them go into the left corner next to the pen because it is really difficult to get them out. Drop off of the cliff in front of the vines into a hole that leads to a cave. When finished. but is too slow to use the whole time. walking up to the next area afterwards. "Stand by the grey rock when the thrush knocks. Now. Drop dow n the cliffs and pick up the six rocks blocking your path. Descend the cliff and hop onto the adjacent platform. Unless the sheep are extremely close together. Fili and Kili are asked to scout ahead for a campsite. In extreme right of the area are vines. Within this cave is a caged dog that can be freed with the key you got earlier. For your efforts. The res t are in the lower left corner. walking on their left side will make them move to the right and walking on their right side will make them move to the left. you are immediately reminded of the harshness outside world. From here. hop the gap and asce nd to the next platform." ********************* * MISTY MOUNTAINS * ********************* Leaving the relaxing atmosphere of Rivendell. it is best to take them to the pen one at a time. Head right as before. There are vines on the back wall of this area that can be climbed and lead to a switch that will help you out later. continue rig ht. retur n to the last area. From the start. where it is raining heavily. When you attempt to exit the area. turn right in front of the six breakabl e rocks (after destroying them if you wish). Elrond gives you the sword rune. Going north. go back into Elrond's home to learn about the sword's you took from the trolls and to have Elrond read you the secret moon letter's on Thorin's map. I push the sheep sitting to the left of the rock in. The sheep try to get away from you whenever you get near to them. The group. To get them to move up. Your prize for this is a skill rune. and you decide . then go down to get the one on the right side. head north until meet an elf who says he's missing a dog. though you are in a different part of it. as you are faced with the infamous Misty Mountains. and the setting sun will shine upon the keyhole. The exit is to the south and takes you to an area that may look familiar. Destroy the four rocks ahead and climb the vines. They say. Using sneak mode will usually allow you to more accurately move the sheep. Before you leave. climb the cliff. pushes into the Misty Mountains in search of a place to camp for the night. head northeast to meet up with the dwarves. As you approach the group. Instead. Clear the next area of enemies. you must get below them. After gaming to your content. they'll split up. One of the enemies in the room (the one in the middle) will give you a key when destroyed. so t ry to take one at a time without sending the rest into the very corner. At the top of this mountainous obstacle course sits a decision of left or right. descend the vines. Climb the cliff and drop down into the hole to reach the lair of the area's boss. Enter the room to the right and kill all the goblins. but Bilbo is separated from the group in the darkness. Exit the first platform (h op across the gap in the southwest corner. Dash across the back wall of the next room to avoid the goblin projectiles and exit the room in the upper left corner. taking the dwarves and Bilbo captive. move vertically when they throw. This will cause the floor to fall out below the sleeping goblin. Head to the left again. hop down. and cross the bridge in the southwest of the followin g platform. Stand there and you will fall in front of a lake. In the lower right corner of the room is an imprisoned goblin. Return to the main room and save your game. is a crack in the ground. Inside the chest is a skill rune. run towards him. Jump down the pile of rocks and take the left rockslide this time. Follow the path through the grass until you come to the edge of the Great River of Wilderland. take the shield rune. When the wolf is destroyed. however. and exit to the south. After killing the enemies in the area. Exit to the left. strike him with your sword. Continue northeast through the next area. It is not. Follow the path until you reach the swamp.to the northeast. push the bookcase. Inside is a partially hidden brazier to the left of a moveable bookcase. Exit through the northwest corner. Everyone leaves and Bilbo is immediately separated from the rest of the group. thunderclaps. Light the brazier in the upper left corner and push the bookcase to the right. Exit the hidden room and return to Beorn's front yard. and some thunderclaps. In it you will find the source of the thumping sound you've been hearing of late. Return to the main room of the house and Beorn will tell you it is safe to go outside. enter the room in the southwest corner of the house. Controlling the beastly vines is a heart like lump in the back wall. ************** * MIRKWOOD * ************** After Gandalf leaves the group. The bug pops its head out of the holes in the garden. Behind the case you'll find some thunderclaps. In the hidden room. Exit the hidden room and return to the main room of the house. and walk around his house to the left. Gandalf will take you to Beorn's house. you can walk along its length normally. Inside his house are three chests containing meat. Exit the are to the right. The elves disappear and you are left in darkness. exit the scree n to the right. faced with a large spider. When you reach the shore the controls will switch so be careful not to hold left when you hit the shallow water or you will walk off the log and drown. Cutting the webs blocking your way. Cut the webs to the north and free the dwarf in the path. Continue right and head south . spiders off of you and wait for the big spider to die. Go left and then down from the area you are placed after the conversation. Go through the next screen to the right. its eyes to hurt it. Free the dwarf and go back north. Six will appear on the screen. Squirrels will steal items from you (usually food or rocks) if they get close enough. this path will take you to a save point. and use it to get to the next horizontal log. There is a large ravine with several islands of land for yo u to hop across. the second one is to the right. Further north is the final dwarf. At this point. Exit the area to the right. The dwarves will reward you with some darts and you will appear in the next part of the forest. Run to the right and kill the spider in the next area. ave to go hit it a few more times. exiting to the north. Kill them all. go northeast. If you jump to the second platform and hop down. go north to free the fourth dwarf. walk onto the second vertical log. They are wrapped up in webs and hanging from trees. Boss Fight: Spider In this fight.along its width will cause it to roll. It slice. When you exit the area you will see some elves. . I usually stand in the upper left corner of the room. and walk through the door to the left. Continue to the north. Descend the stairs to get two pieces of meat. replace it. Continue to the northwest and sneak across the next room. Go through the cavern to collect a life rune. Press R and sneak up to grab the keys next to the sleeping elf. Through the cavern you will find two pieces of meat. take the meat. walk through the door to the south. leaving it throug h the door to the northwest. stand where he was. Returning to the previous room. descend the ladder. and a brand new. To do so. slip on the ring when wood elves are around. Go through the door to the north. Continue left and exit the circular room (the exit is between two barrels). Walking unseen. Go back to the entrance of the first cave.. The cave at the top contains some meat. remove my ring until the guard next to me moves. some spring water. go northeast. Exit the room and head left. Go through the door to the north to get some meat and a skill rune. and a music box. Inside are four chests containing thre e pieces of meat and some pure elven spring water. To avoid getting caught. equip the music box. and use it to put the dog to sleep. Continue sneaking to the left to come to the hall of cells. but there is a doorway to the northeas t. incredibly useful. Climb the ledge on the back wall of this room (it has a moon engraved on it). This next room takes you in a big circle. An elf is blocking the right path so you need to lure him out. slip on the ring and exit to the northeast. go to the southwest and climb down the ladder. and remove it again. The cave in the next room has three chests which contain (left to right): meat. you will be jailed in th e entrance of the level. and exit the room to the north. until the lower guard moves. walking around the barrels in the middle of the room.nothing. Stand invisibly in front of the dog. Leave the cave and walk invisibly to the left. If the wood elves catch you. The cave in this room contains a chest with some meat. Walk invisibly through the north exit and enter the next area. Jump across the watery gap and go north. Get the three dwarves and run back to the hallway. so use this information to avoid the fire. There is food in the house you appear next to. which. Climb down the cliff in the lower right corner and exit the area. *************** * LAKE . Keep going up the mountain once you've gotten it. Following the dock around. who will give you a jump rune. Hear you will meet with men who allow you to stay with them for several days. Return to the dock and go north. Push the barrel over the trap door and step on the green button. The door will open and you can save Thorin. Climb the cliffs to the north.TOWN * *************** Bilbo washes up on the shore and comes out of his barrel. An old man will ask you to return his dog to him. Chase the dog north twice and then to the left twice. Continue fighting your way north until you get to another cliff. followed by the lower left room. so run to the right. ******************* * LONELY MOUNTAIN * ******************* The ferryman will leave you and Thorin will rally the dwarves up the mountain. Repeat until all th e dwarves are through. when sliced . Jump across the water and head south. You must put the colored statues over their respective flame. Do the same thing for the lower left door. sneak over the spikes. you come to the ferryman who will take you to the Lonely Mountain. and enter the door to get two more dwarves. Sneak back to the hallway and enter the lower right door. Eventually you will come to Thorin. The flames fire at you in clockwise order. Approach the barrel on the rug and a dwarf will enter. stand on the door and throw a rock at the switch. Go right twice. Jump the gap in the docks and talk to the dwarves. After getting it. Force the dog around the house to the owner. Walk past the person feeding bird and climb down the two sets of stairs. Push the rock in the next area down one step and over to the right four steps. then walk across and go to the right. then head north.Enter the two rooms on the back wall. walking up the screen at . Jump over the gap and climb the ledge. and then south. When all the dwarves are gone. jump over the gap in the bridge. past the four doors. Hop the gap and climb the vines. Head right. Now go back to the hallway with the four doors that you didn't enter. There is a dead end pat h in the bushes in front of this cliff. Use the music box to put the dog to sleep. Follow them left. Continue down the hallway. Exit the area to the northeast. gives up a skill rune. Hop across the platforms to get a life rune. heading north afterwards. Go back to the barrel room and send the rest of the dwarves on their way. head north. Climb the stairs next to the fisherman and continue south. Enter the upper right door. who tells you to scout the entrance ahead for any sign of the dragon. Run across the floor (I haven't figured out how to avoid the spears ). At the end is a stump. past the elf. Chase it to the right and then down twice to get to the house. After talking with the dwarf. Use the statues for cover if you have to. Bilbo runs out of the room and the troll disappear s from the room when you return. It comes back if you leave and re-enter the room again. Cross over the log bridge. so don't be slow about hopping over the giant gap. At the exit of th e area. hopping a gap and climbing a cliff in the next area. This will cause the log to fall into place as a bridge. Climb do wn the cliffs that it had once spanned to get to a cave that contains a shield rune in its northwest corner. jumping gaps and climbing vines to do so.the top. suspended rocks. exiting the area to the northeast. Having climbed the left cliff. Exit the area to the north. Climb the vines in the next area. In the the rope. Press A to get some meat. After saving. Enter the door at the end of the room. Continue through the next area to the northeast. Sneak behind him through the door to the east and run through the next two rooms. Your path middle of the front back wall will be blocked by a large tree suspended by a rope. In the next area there is a short cliff to the left and a short cliff to the right. Moving left. To the north. entering the cave to the north. so he rushes back to Thorin. Return to the area where the log bridge was and exit to the northwest. you will be asked to save. Follow the path up. Go back to the last room and exit to the south. Cross the lake on the floating rafts. Go around the dead tree by climbing the cliff and descending the vines. drop down and hang onto the ledge. Thorin tells Bilbo to find the secret entrance. Go north through the next area. Ascend the vines and jump to the right. Here you see two odd looking. Exit the cave a nd return to the area of the mountain with two cliffs. In the next room. you find that th . First. climb the right cliff. there is a break. avoiding the large axes. Climb one of the ledges that are behind the torches on the sidewalls. Climb the ledge again and head north. take a left at the top. "Stand by the grey rock when the thrush knocks. Enter the cave and climb the ledges immediately (almost) in front of the doorway . Bilbo will reveal Smaug's weakness and soon the dragon will come out to raid Lake-town. and drop down pile of gold to get the Arkenstone. Continue straight down the path through several areas. Walk right until you come to a dwarf who tells you that Thorin gave everyone the right to choose their own share of the treasure. The thrush flies off and tells a man of Smaug's weakness Head back to the treasure room. There are three path splits and to exit. sneaking alone will not get you by. Now. left. which mischievious Bilbo claims as his own. Talk to Thorin and he will give you the key. saving as you go. After getting the rune. you must go right. as he will spot you and flame you.e dwarves do not know how to open the door to the cave. Though Smaug seems to be sleeping. Immediately run south. Head south from there. Climb the ledge in the lower right corner of the room. Going in this room will allow you access to a life rune. until you come to a large doorway. It has shimmerin g gems lining its rim. agonizing death. Returning to Smaug's treasure. Smaug will then blow fire at you. Inside is the dragon Smaug and all his glorious treasures. read to you by Elrond. Go past the large stairs and down to collect the coat of mithril. You will then be transported back outside. trap you. go back out to the hall. taking a left in the next room. you must run back outside. left. The splits in the pathway may trick you. and the setting sun will shine upon the keyhole. and lead you to be burned. causing you to suffer a slow. and exit in the southeast corner. where you can save and Thorin will tell you to find another way out. Thorin then tells you to explore the cave. you'll notice an exit to the righ t of where you enter. Slip on the ring and snag the goblet in front of Smaug's head. You will find a switch in the next room. In the next area. Down the path is a doorway. Follow the hall north and take a left in the following area. To the north is another raft puzzle that is very simple. Ascend the stairs and go left in the next room. recall the secret moon letters on the map. Go back over the rafts." **************** * SMAUG'S CAVE * **************** Stand against the back wall to the right of the grey rock on which a bird sits and press A to open the door. Climb down the ledges and run out the door to safety. so it is easy to spot. Bilbo will be caught by Smaug's impeccable sense of smell. where. respectively. Go through the northeast door in the following area and go through the door in the room. but tests your patience because the last raft is so incredibly slow and has the longest path to travel. . they will say it looks valuable. To avoid death. Bilbo states that he will go back inside and see what he can find. when you show the goblet to the dwarves. Go back outside and push both large rocks in one step and down two steps. Follow the path all the way down the mountain until you come to an area with green tinted (I guess they're mossy) rocks. and enter the cave on the back wall of the platform. Exit the area and descend the previously mentioned cliffs. Climb the platform and push the rock on it into its proper place in the outline drawn in the lower right corner (remember those?). Sneak back across t he spikes and push the statue into its proper place in the northwest. climb the cliff to the righ t and hop across the gap to get the bladed walking stick. exit to the south. . You are charged with a task of damming the river. Flip the two large switches on either side of the room. fight the ghost above. where a siege begins. Pull the switch to drop a statue. In the area to the northeast. a door will be lowered and platform will be raised. return to the entrance of the dwarf fortress. Climb the platforms. and descend the ledge to the right. descend the stairs he blocked. Here you will face several waves of enemies and receive a key. and must be hit 2-3 times.
