The Chevra Chesed Commitee (CCC) reaches out to Chevra members who are alone in their homes, residences, hospitals and rehabilitation centres for extended time periods. The Committee also sends refuah shelemah cards to those who are experi- encing health issues and issues sympathy cards to those who have lost a loved ones. This past Chanukah, The CCC sent magnificent Chanukah greeting cards to our members. We also organized a Chanukah sing-a-long at Le Waldorf led by Cantor Epstein. The Cantor spread magic through his infectious voice. He captivated and lifted the spirits of all Waldorf residents. They were all appreciative to be part of this festive afternoon. The CCC is currently in the planning stages of our Passover Project. We have a lovely surprise in store! On behalf of the CCC, Halina Halpern & Pearl Rothenberg extend our best wishes to the entire Chevra Congregation for a Happy, Healthy and Meaningful Passover. Rabbi Jacobson focused on patterns that have reoccurred throughout Jewish history. He stressed that as Jews we need to know and understand our roots. According to Rabbi Jacobson “this is having a personal history”. The Rabbi’s inspirational and meaning- ful series enlightened all those all who attended. Stay tuned for details on Rabbi Jacobson's next lecture series. Muslim/Zionist Speaker On October 22, 2017 The Chevra hosted an event featuring the courageous Yahya Mahamid. Yahya is a young Israeli Arab who became a Muslim Zionist. He arrived with the team from StandWithUs Canada, an organization that educates and empowers supporters of Israel. They focus on university campuses and high schools, inspiring the next generation of leaders. Yahya shared his touching personal story, while shedding some light on how a young Israeli Arab, from the hostile city of Umm- al-Fahm ,came to realize that many of the stories he grew up with were inaccurate or lies. By speaking up, Yahya put himself and his family at risk. Finally, in order to ensure his safety, Yahya had to leave his family and move away. Yahya currently works at the StandWithUs office in Jerusalem. He continues to be an inspiring and brave young voice promoting coexistence, peace, and hope. The event was sold out and several stu- dents were in attendance. The audience was touched by Yahya’s stories and daring journey. 15 The Queen of Chesed Queen of Chesed is an original dramatic comedy written by Claudia and Pearl and directed by Ellen David (who is also played the role of Faigie). It was presented at the Outremont theatre on November 15th and 16th, 2017. Both nights were sold out! The main star, Faigie Jacobson, who is the wife of a Rabbi and mother of 9 children is a dynamic, religious woman. She opened her Crown Heights, Brooklyn home to the needy, homeless, hungry and lonely people to come for a meal and often stay indefinitely. Faigie is the “real life” mother of Rabbi Asher Jacobson. The play had fictitious and true to life occurrences and made for some inter- esting dramatic and comedic interactions not only between the Jacobson family and their “guests”, but also between the “guests” themselves! Congratulations to the writers, producers, lead actress and director for their exceptional and enter- taining performances. 16 Yidlife Crisis: A Night of Eli Batalion "Leizer" Unleavened Comedy Eli Batalion is a writer, producer, Newsbreaking!
