Description

DescriptionThe core of the Sat3Play system is a DVB-S2 Hub that enables the provisioning of both basic and complex services to consumer and business markets. The Sat3play Hub has been designed in order to be highly scalable for both traffi c and management aspects, supporting a wide and growing range of multimedia, data and voice applications. A Hub system is a modular platform designed for: • “Grow-as-you-go” modularity • Multi-service provider • 10.000 users per Carrier Blade • Up to 16 Carrier Blades per Hub (160.000 users)* • Carrier class degree of active redundancy Sat3Play Architecture The Sat3Play Hub provides the entire necessary infrastructure to receive and transmit IP data from and to the satellite terminals. The Hub manages the services offered to the customers in terms of traffi c shaping and service level agreements. It provides connectivity to the Internet, a private data network, or a SIP and PSTN network. Value added services, such as pay TV, Video-On-Demand or Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephony, can easily be implemented on the Sat3Play platform. Single or Multi-service provider platform The Sat3play Hub features the concept of Multi Service Provider Platform, allowing Hub operators to rent parts of the Hub infrastructure and capacity to several large or medium-sized ISPs and VPN operators. Unique remote management tools allow these ISPs to independently manage and control their part of the Hub in terms of bandwidth allocation, SLA, terminal population, accounting, and terminal support, … Dynamic Bandwidth management Each carrier blade is responsible for handling a specific stream of traffi c with data speeds ranging from 10 to 80(*) Mbps and higher. Acceleration and compression can increase the throughput by another 30 to 90%, depending on the traffi c type. Advanced TelliShape End-to-end Traffi c Shaping and Quality of Service technology allow dynamic management of advanced Service Level Agreements (SLA). TelliShape End-to-end Traf c Shaping Dynamic traffi c shaping is done at multiple levels, and can be completely controlled from carrier blade level, to sub-groups, up to the terminal level. Intelligent mechanisms allow effi cient shaping of the whole network: congestion of one or more forward or return pools can be dynamically managed. Because traffi c shaping is completely integrated, no external traffi c shapers need to be used. End-to-end Quality of Service To enable triple play services in the network, Sat3Play supports end-to-end QoS both in the forward as in the return channel. Newtec’s implementation of QoS gives guaranteed forward and return bandwidth (Dynamic CIR) per single or group of terminals in a very effi cient way: remote sites with no QoS traffi c are assigned no QoS resources. The remaining terminals share fair access via a truly dynamic bandwidth assignment algorithm. QoS is delivered with small delay and excellent jitter values, resulting in crystal clear VoIP and reliable real-time applications. The dynamic bandwidth allocation enables multiple concurrent applications at the same remote site. Fair Use Policy Service The Fair Use Policy Service allows putting restrictions on the bandwidth of the terminals according to the consumed volume. This rewards the good users and limits the malicious users. Fair Use Policies can be enforced through the optional Application Programmers Interface (API) of the Sat3Play system. Traf c Acceleration At the core of the Sat3Play system the world renowned TelliNet software, provides end-to-end TCP-acceleration, HTTP-pre-fetching and compression engines working in load balancing. Tellinet gives a real broadband experience to the end-user, by assuring fast browsing and fast downloads. Security Security of the Sat3Play Hub is maintained by a full separation of management and traffi c path. The management system provides secure access for the operator and for the ISPs. Business automation integration With the optional API, several operational tasks can be automated (Reporting, Accounting, Bandwidth management, Fair Use Policy enforcement, Terminal provisioning …). The result is a tight integration between customer support management tools and the satellite network management systems, resulting in lower operational costs. Business automation integration is available within the single or multi-service provider concepts. Retail & e-commerce business models Sat3Play is fitted with functionalities that allow flexibility in distribution channels toward different types of markets. Management system The Management system provides control over the functionalities of the Sat3Play system. The functions are organized in management fragments as defined in the ITU-T standardization (FCAPS). These functions provide the platform operator with a full and real-time control on all network elements. The unique Newtec management system supports these functions according to the selected business model and as such also gives the ISPs (Internet Service Providers) partial visibility on the Hub system.
