6th and 7th October 2012Round Table Conference on India’s Framework for Refugees HNLU Chapter Hear me, take me, shelter and protect me, for the world has knocked me off my feet. Be human. I am too. I am… Hidayatullah National Law University 2 1 Lorem IpsumABLE ROUND T Dolor CONFERENCE [Issue] [Date] 6th & 7th Oct ::2012 Man no longer exists for himself, nor do nations exist for their selfish interests. The effort of the world today is to make all human families march together and in cooperation and not against one another. Justice M. Hidayatullah Justice M. Hidayatullah : The Man and His Legacy The former Chief Justice and President of India’s contribution to International Law and the jurisprudence of human rights is immense. He was the President of the Indian Society of International Law and was very closely associated with the Hunger Project of the United States of America, the World Association of Orphans and Abandoned Children, Geneva. His essays and lectures on the development of international human rights law and the rule of law can be found in his book, “A Judge’s Miscellany”. His book on The South West Africa Case, reflects his profound understanding of the international legal order. Adherence to the legitimate bounds of the judicial process and seeking to do justice on the basis of settled juristic principles was the creed practiced by Justice Hidayatullah. He advocated driving through the highways of justice instead of straying into the maze of the bye-lanes. This conference will be a fitting tribute to this great legal luminary. The Conference The United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of byline Refugees (CRSR) is the cornerstone of refugee rights and duties that [Name] are cast upon those nations granting them asylum. It is just as vital as the UDHR in terms of the issues it addresses and the goals that it aims to achieve. India faces its own refugee crisis and this is the perfect platform for members from all schools of thought, opinion and expression to carve out a path for India to resolve this delicate situation. The conference will be split into three sessions. The first session will see students interacting with resource persons from UNHRC and ICRC on the current international legal framework for refugees. In the second session, student delegates with the guidance of panelists including academicians and advocates of refugee rights will delve on the practical lacunae in the international legal framework as well as inadequacies of the Indian mechanism. Finally, there will be a session with officials from the Ministry of External Affairs in order to understand the stance taken by the Indian state as far as the CRSR is concerned. The conclusion of this conference will be marked by the presentation of a Memorandum to the Ministry of External Affairs, India; one step that we take in the hope of making a difference. 2 Lorem Ipsum Dolor 6th & 7th Oct 2012 ROUND TABLE CIssue [#] :: [Date] ONFERENCE What? & When?
