COURSE SYLLABUSPROPERTY LAW Jay L Batongbacal* 1st Semester, AY 2011-2012 Mondays & Wednesdays Day/Evening Section GROUND RULES The primary textbook for this class is Tolentino, A. COMMENTARIES AND JURISPRUDENCE ON THE CIVIL CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES (Vol. 2). Any edition will suffice. In all cases where the Course Syllabus refers to a provision of the New Civil Code (NCC), students are required to read the corresponding commentaries by Tolentino. This applies to NCC provisions not included in Vol. 2; students are responsible for referring to the corresponding volumes. In case of a few special laws outside the NCC, students may refer to any available textbook on the subject. The schedule of assignments over the course the semester is laid out in the table at the end of this syllabus. Such assignments are to be followed strictly unless otherwise instructed by the professor. Sufficient allowance has been made for possible holidays, calamities, delays, or other contingencies. Where the outline points to an unfamiliar technical word, phrase, classification, or language, students are expected to exercise due diligence and determine their meaning. Electronic devices of any kind or any printed material are NOT permitted on the students' tables during class hours. Electronic devices shall be turned OFF, and printed materials (codals and cases) shall be kept HIDDEN. They may be taken out only upon instruction. Only handwritten notes are permitted. Every violation of this rule merits one failing mark for recitation. Students shall have ready at all times, at least 2 sheets of yellow intermediate pad paper for surprise quizzes. Each quiz is equivalent to one recitation. The final grade shall have only two components: recitations/quizzes (50%) and the final exam (50%). If a student called for recitation turns out to be absent, s/he shall be given one failing mark for recitation. I.
