Press Release Waltham, Mass.and Dallas, Texas, USA – October 30, 2008 Nokia Siemens Networks Successfully Tests IMS Infrastructure Solution at Global Multi-Vendor Interoperability Event Nokia Siemens Networks has successfully completed interoperability testing of its IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) infrastructure solution at GMI 2008, the MultiService Forum’s (MSF) biennial interoperability event spanning three continents. The results demonstrate that Nokia Siemens Networks open, standards-based IMS infrastructure technology can enable service providers to deliver next-generation multimedia applications and converged services in a multi-vendor network environment. During GMI 2008, Nokia Siemens Networks successfully completed the following IMS network interoperability test scenarios: • • • • End-to-end Session Control with Quality of Service (QoS), which enables service providers to deliver next generation media-rich applications like IPTV in a true multivendor environment. Testing was conducted using multiple access technologies, including CDMA, UMTS and Broadband DSL, over a converged core network. Feature-rich Mobile Telephony including location-based services and transit routing, which enables service providers to offer IMS-based mobility and inter-network services. IPTV Interworking with IMS, with an emphasis on specifications developed by the ATIS IPTV Interoperability Forum. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Interworking with IMS, which allows service providers to offer web-based services, including interworking with other service enablers like presence and location. “While the GMI 2008 interoperability testing was done in a lab network environment, it demonstrated that IMS standards are now mature and that Nokia Siemens Networks IMS technology can deliver on its promise to create new revenue opportunities and lower operating costs for service providers along side a rich multimedia user experience,” said Jürgen Walter, Global Head of Converged Core, Nokia Siemens Networks. “Nokia Siemens Networks IMS platform is designed from the ground up to be a native SIPbased Session Control with QoS and Unified Subscriber Management solution, compliant with the 3GPP IMS standard, which has also been widely adopted by the TISPAN and PacketCable standardization bodies. This gives service providers the capability to seamlessly build a multi-vendor network and deliver both existing, as well as new, multimedia applications and convergence services using the same converged core network,” said Walter. The GMI 2008 multi-vendor test configurations included Nokia Siemens Networks market leading IMS network elements: the CMS-8200, CFX-5000 and PCS-5000. The Nokia Siemens Networks IMS equipment was used in a test site hosted by Verizon, and linked by VPN/IPsec tunnels to four other sites in North America, the United Kingdom and China.
