NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATIONPresented by ASWATH V N 1YD09EC017 INTERNAL GUIDE MRS. SAVITHA MURTY WHAT IS NFC??? • NFC or Near Field Communication is a short range high frequency wireless communication technology. • A radio communication is established by touching the two phones or keeping them in a proximity of a few centimeters. • NFC is mainly aimed for mobile or handheld devices. • NFC is an extension of Radio frequency identification or RFID technology. • In 2008, NFC Forum was formed by Nokia, Philips, Sony, to set standards for NFC . Every NFC enabled device will have “N-Mark” trademark ,developed by NFC Forum. Usages Of NFC Devices USE CASES • NFC applications can be split into the following three basic categories:  Touch and Go  Touch and Confirm  Touch and Connect . .USE CASES • Touch and Confirm Applications such as mobile payment where the user has to confirm the interaction by entering a password or just accepting the transaction. Example for picking up an Internet URL from a smart label on a poster. Touch and go Mode of application . where the user needs only to bring the device storing the ticket or access code close to the reader.USE CASES • Touch and Go Applications such as access control or transport/event ticketing. USE CASES Movie buff gathering info about a movie using his NFC enabled Mobile Phone . USE CASES The screenshot from a mobile device showing the confirmati on message. . exchanging images or synchronizing address books.USE CASES • Touch and Connect Linking two NFC-enabled devices to enable peer to peer transfer of data such as downloading music. Data transfer via NFC . • NFC works using magnetic induction between two loop antennas located within each other's 'near field’. .OPERATION OF NFC • Near field communication is based on inductive-coupling. the initiator actively generates an RF field that can power a passive target.56 MHz. • NFC use an initiator and a target.OPERATION OF NFC • operating frequency 13.data rate 106 kbit/s to 424 kbit/s. Target . NFC NDEF basics NFC NDEF data exchange format message structure . Reference layer . coding a 0 is determined on the basis of the preceded bit . While a 1 is always encoded in the same way. .Operation Of NFC Modified Miller Coding • This line code is characterized by pauses occurring in the carrier at different positions of a period. Operation Of NFC • Manchester Coding • A low-to-high transition expresses a 0 bit. whereas a high-to-low transition stands for a 1 bit. . PROTOCOL FLOW : INITIALIZATION . MODES OF OPERATION • In Active mode. both devices with NFC chip generates an electromagnetic field and exchange data. Two NFC enabled devices transfer -ring data in active mode . A NFCenabled mobile phone is paired with a RFIDtagged "smart poster" . there is only one active device and the other uses that field to exchange information.MODES OF OPERATION • In Passive mode. APPLICATIONS • • • • • • • Mobile payment PayPal Ticketing Boarding pass Personal Identification proof Keycard Car and House Keys . APPLICATIONS . ADVANTAGES OF NFC • High convenience to the user. • Secure communication. • No search and pair procedure. • Reduces cost of electronic issuance . . • No special software. • No manual configuration and settings. because the data exchange is done by bringing two mobiles together. • The data transfer rate is very less at about 106Kbps.DISADVANTAGES OF NFC • The system has the limitation that it can be operated only with devices under a short range i.848Kbps. . 424Kbps. 212 Kbps.e around 10 cm. • Recently. 2011.FUTURE OF NFC • New generations of iPhone. iPod and iPad products would reportedly be equipped with NFC capability which would enable small-scale monetary transactions. . RIM announced the Blackberry Bold 9900. Microsoft announced that all Windows Phone 8 devices will make use of the NFC technology. a new device that will use NFC technology. • On May 2. . NFC and wireless power are the three major near-field (contact-less) technologies that are expected to eliminate the physical connections and cables currently required to interface devices with each other.CONCLUSION • Mobile handsets are the primary target for NFC and soon NFC will be implemented in most handheld devices. • TransferJet. whatis. asia.com/info/wireless/nfc/nfc_overview.php • http://www.html • www.com/nfc.org http://www.html http://www.cnet.com/news/content/file_1053.com/nfc.gemalto.controleng.html http://www.asp?layout=article& articleid=CA6289218&spacedesc=latest News • http://www.REFERENCE • • • • http://www.com/near field communication.com/index.nfc-forum.nxp.radioelectronics.html .techtarget.
