Training onMaxsurf Day-1 S.M. Rashidul Hasan Naval Architect Agenda     Introduction to Maxsurf Basic Principles Formation of Curves in CAHDS An introduction to the concept of the surface and how its shape is controlled by a net of control points.  Use of different menu and toolbar  Getting started and view different aspects of an existing model. Learning Outcome  To know about Ship/Marine Design Software  To know how design software makes model (preliminary information)  Get used to with maxsurf Maxsurf . .Different Ship design Software  NAPA  Maxsurf  Autoship  Tribon  Freeship  Delftship And so on. Fast to learn and easy to master graphical interface  Model complex hull geometry with trimmed surfaces  Match required hull parameters using parametric transformation  Availability  Compatibility .Why Maxsurf?  User Friendly. transfer files for other programs .About Maxsurf  Maxsurf is a powerful three-dimensional surface modeling system  Maxsurf's multiple surface capabilities  Highly accurate output is produced in the form of hull lines. frame and deck definition .Maxsurf Module Maxsurf for hull modeling Hydromax for initial stability and hydrostatics Hull Speed for resistance Prefit for fitting of existing designs from offsets Hydrolink for Data exchange with analysis systems Seakeeper Motions Prediction strip theory Workshop Plate Development. stringer. In a Nutshell . Different Maxsurf Models . Different Maxsurf Models . Different Maxsurf Models . Different Maxsurf Models . Movement of these control points allows you to manipulate a surface into a desired shape.  Surfaces are defined in Maxsurf by the position of a set of control points that collectively form a control point net. . appendages and superstructures are defined in Maxsurf using one or more surfaces.Basic Principle  Hulls. Theory Behind the Lines . Some models in Maxsurf  Lets open maxsurf some models in . Maxsurf Reference  Tool Bars  Menu Bars . Tool Bars . Tool Bars . Tool Bars . Tool Bars . Menu Bars          File Menu Edit Menu View Menu Marker Menu Controls Menu Surfaces Menu Display Menu Data Menu Window Menu .  Go to profile view.  Select the design called IOR Yacht from the Desktop\Maxsurf11\Sample designs\Yachts directory.  Unlock the surfaces.  Check the zero point and change if necessary. .Getting Started  To familiarize yourself with the basic functions of Maxsurf you should now open an existing design. Getting Started  What are the squares and the blue line? . Getting Started  These squares are the control points that affect the surface shape  The blue line defines the polygon/net made for our desired surface. . purple and white. What they signifies? .Getting Started  The control points have two types of color. .  White control points are the intermediate control points of the control points. Edges are defined only by the control points on the corresponding edge of the net. These are the corner control points.Getting Started  You will find 4 purple control points on each surface you design.  What is the yellow line? .Getting Started  Turn on net from display menu bar. .Getting Started  What is the yellow line?  Across the window is a yellow line. this is the Datum Waterline (DWL). .Getting Started  At the bottom of the Profile window there are four position indicators.  Individual Point  Continuous Group of Points  Discontinuous Group of Points . You may de-select any selection by clicking in the background of any of the drawing windows. you must select a control point or group of control points by using the cursor.Moving a Control Point  To change the shape of an edge or any other part of a surface. The selection may then be moved by dragging it to a new location. .Moving a Control Point !Remember!  Hold shift while moving any control point. the command Ctrl y us effective. Also.Moving a Control Point  If you make a mistake.  Save the design in a new directory from file>save as . To do this: Select Undo from the Edit menu (You can also use the Ctrl Z shortcut). you may wish to undo the change that you have just made to the design and return it to its shape prior to the control point movement. Moving a Control Point  Task: Experiment with the various methods for selecting and moving the control points to modify the IOR yacht and check the changes in perspective view. .
