Professional Learning Catalog Summer 2011MONTGOMERY COUNTY INTERMEDIATE UNIT An Educational Service Agency Supporting School Excellence Professional Development Workshops offered for Act 48 hours Most CPE Courses Offered for Graduate Credit A Legacy of Service: MCIU History Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) is one of 29 intermediate units formed by the Pennsylvania State Legislature in 1971 to provide support to local school districts. Through collaboration among schools and community agencies, intermediate units work to provide innovative, responsive and cost-effective programs that save taxpayers millions of dollars annually and enhance academic instruction. Today, the MCIU provides a vast array of more than 200 services that meet the educational and social service needs of Montgomery County’s 22 public school districts, more than 150 nonpublic schools, four vocational-technical schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Services are provided through nine divisions: Communications; Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development; Human Resources; Legislative Services and Grants Development; Management Services; Nonpublic School Services; Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN); Special Education and Technology and Information Services. The MCIU is governed by a 22-member board of directors composed of representatives from each of the 22 component school districts in Montgomery County. Funding sources include state subsidy, government and foundation grants, contributions from districts and fees for service.
