Examinations: There are two Preliminary Exams and a comprehensive Final Exam. The prelims are 7:30- 9:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21 and Thursday, April 12. Please mark these dates and do not schedule anything that conflicts with them. In case of unavoidable conflicts (prelims only), make-up prelims can be taken at an earlier time on the same day (typically 1 hour and 45 minutes before the regular prelim). You must let the head TA know that you will be taking the make up prelim at least 2 days before the prelim. Locations of the prelims and the final exam will be posted on Blackboard as well as on the Cornell University website. Homework: Weekly homework assignments (total number of assignments = 13) will be collected in the drop boxes located in 102 Thurston Hall. All the assignments and associated reading are listed in the syllabus, which is posted on Blackboard. (However, please note that the posted syllabus is preliminary/tentative. As the course progresses, the topics & homework assignments might change – please check for updates each week before starting to work on the corresponding HW.) Assignments from the previous M,W,F will be due on Tuesdays (for example, your first HW will be due on 1/31). The two exceptions to this schedule (immediately before Prelim I & in the last week of semester) are noted on syllabus. Since HW solutions will be posted in the course Website on Tuesday between 5 -7 pm, no homework will be accepted after the 5 pm deadline on Tuesdays. [Reminder: You must write your own solutions and you are responsible for listing all sources (other than our textbook) used to complete the HW -e.g., discussions with TAs or other students, other books or online materials, etc] Put your name and recitation section number on your HW. Hand in your assignment to the section you are registered to. HW will be graded as follows: 10 points per assignment. Three problems per week will be chosen for careful grading, 2 pts. each. The other 4 points will be for completion and effort. The grades of the 3 worst HW assignments will be dropped in calculating your overall homework score which will be out of 100 points.
