A Women and Child development ministry’s initiative, the Centre would act as a one-stop facility to provide all kinds of aid to women in distress including medical help, counselling, legal and police assistance, while ensuring anonymity of the victim. The Centre will be mandated to provide legal, medical and psychological assistance to distressed women. Gujarat-cadre officers appointed Power, Commerce Secretaries In a major reshuffle, the government made 17 Secretary-level appointments. Two Gujarat-cadre IAS officers will take over as Commerce and Power Secretaries. Pradeep Kumar Pujari, a 1981-batch officer, has been appointed Secretary, Power. The government has issued a notification to withdraw the excise and customs duty exemptions enjoyed by the Ordnance Factory Board and public sector units in defence sector. The move addresses a key demand of private sector and foreign original equipment (OEMs) such as Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems, which are actively exploring the scope of future investments in India.
