Letter to Chancellor condemning Authority Endorsed Police Brutality & State Sponsored Cadre Hooliganism In Jadavpur University Campus

To, The Chancellor, Jadavpur University, Kolkata -700032, Sub: Condemning Authority Endorsed Police Brutality & TMC cadres hooliganism in University Campus Premises . This is to express our deep condemnation against the brutal suppressive measures in the campus brought about by the administrative authorities. All that the general students of Jadavpur University ,demanded was an impartial probe into the recent incident regarding the alleged sexual harassment of a student of Jadavpur University, within the university premises on 28.8.2014 . They went for indefinite peaceful sit-in-demonstration to ensure that an unbiased investigation is conducted and justice is meted out. They were steely determined to protest against any form of gender violence in the campus. And what did they receive in return ? On 17.9.2014 , at 2.00 a.m. , Police and Trinomool Congress Cadres invaded the campus . Some odd 100 students from arts , engineering faculty were present in the campus during that time . Lights shut down . Students were deliberately molested by those hooligans , beaten black and blue by the police. Aftermath : 37 students were arrested. More than 40 students had to be hospitalized . 2 of them still in a very critical situation . It appears that the very administrative authority which speaks of increasing surveillance, imposing countless restrictions to ‘prevent’(?) 'any form of undesirable activity' in the campus, turns out to be the sole agent for creating an ambiance of terror in the university premises , by letting loose ruthless atrocities on the students in one way or the other.  We , EX-Students of Jadavpur University , condemn vehemently such police brutality and hooliganism of State aided TMC cadres endorsed by the University authority .  We express our grave resentment against such State-Authority nexus and the terror they bring in .  In this context we demand of Public apology from the Police Minister , for the heinous crimes that the police committed by molesting the students who were participating in the peaceful demonstration and were far from causing any damage to the prevalent social dynamics of the public .  We are in complete solidarity with the ongoing movement of the general students of Jadavpur University and demand a speedy impartial probe into the incident .  However going by the current scenario where an ambiance of terror reigns ,where the Vice Chancellor , remains nonchalant ,and facilitates conditions for the TMC cadres to intrude at dead of night and indulge in their barbaric acts together with ruthlessness of the police , essentially a State Apparatus;We demand immediate resignation of the Vice Chancellor , for we now strongly believe the present administrative authority to be extremely incompetent in resolving issues concerning campus violence and instead reinforce the same to an unprecedented extent .
