1The Importance of KP Ayanamsa in Applied KP Prediction Dr. Andrew Dutta “I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that don’t’ work”. Thomas A. Edisson It gives me immense pleasure in authoring this article for the inaugural issue of KP E- magazine edited by a scholarly KP professional, Shri Kanak Bhai Bosmia, who is well known in India and abroad for his astoundingly correct predictions using the Krishnamurthi Paddhati (KP) astrology. In fact, the launch of this electronic magazine for KP astrology will, perhaps, be the first of its kind in this branch of astrology in the world. My best wishes are with the editor and this scholarly journal. The role of Ayanamsa in applied prediction can hardly be over emphasized. This article is not an attempt to advocate any particular Ayanamsa, since we are all aware that the Ayanamsa given by our revered Guruji late Shri K. S. Krishnamurthi (KSK) is a very important ingredient for using his system of astrology. The Krishnamurthi Paddhati would not yield correct results if one were to use any other Ayanamsa, namely Lahiri, Bhasin, Sanatana, or Raman. For correct prediction through KP astrology we invariably need the Ayanamsa suggested by Shri KSK, which he arrived at after decades of painstaking research. In his First Reader, Shri KSK spent over 16 pages in discussing the role of Ayanamsa and his exposition on this matter leaves no room for doubt that the Ayanamsa suggested by him for 15th April, 1900, taking the Epoch year as 291 AD, was 22 Deg 22 Min 30 Secs (KP & Astrology Yearbook, 2003; pp 92-93) would yield consistent results with the precision rate per second per year as 50. 2388475 seconds (also known as Newcomb’s rate of correction) However, recently there has been some modification in this Ayanamsa. Some researchers in the field of KP astrology have taken a different Epoch year and arrived at an Ayanamsa which is different by about 4 mins 44 seconds. This Ayanamsa is popularly known as the KP 2 Straight Line Adjusted Ayanamsa. As a result of this correction rate, the Ayanamsa value for the same date as above turned out to be 22 Deg 27 Min 14 Secs thereby giving a difference of 4 Mins 44 Secs. Though this may appear to be a minor difference, practitioners and researchers in the field of KP are well aware that this so called ‘minor’ difference can cause the entire prediction to go haywire. Before I cite a case example to illustrate the importance of Ayanamsa, let me briefly elucidate the concept of Ayanamsa. The word ‘Ayan’ means movement. Therefore, ‘Sha Ayan’ means moving position or with-Ayan whereas, ‘Nir- ah Ayan’ means static position or without Ayan. This gives rise to the Sayana zodiac (the moving zodiac) of Western astrology and the Nirayan zodiac (fixed or sidereal zodiac) of Indian astrology. The Ayanamsa value is the distance between the Hindu first point and the Vernal Equinox, measured at an Epoch. Vernal Equinox refers to one of the two points that arise due to the intersection of the celestial equator and the ecliptic or the apparent path of Sun. Thus, the difference in values for the various Ayanamsas occurs due to the different Epoch years that are considered as the dates of coincidence of the two zodiacs. A number of Epochs were used by researchers and scholars such as 361 AD, 394 AD, 397 AD, 498 AD 559 AD etc. We are all aware that in KP astrology the smallest sub-division arc of a constellation is of a value of 4 mins. This belongs to Sun. Therefore, any difference in the Ayanamsa values greater than 4 mins would alter the sublord of a planet and cusp. In the example below, I provide a case example where the choice of a particular Ayanamsa yielded different results. This case is not an example to advocate any particular Ayanamsa value but a simple illustration that Ayanamsa plays a very important role in prediction. It is up to the wise discretion of the readers to find out the Ayanamsa value that yield consistent results to them. On 24 th November, 2006 a lady approached me to know whether her husband would get an interview call from a reputed educational institution. The question put forth was, “will 3 my husband get a call for the interview at BMA?” She gave 20 as the horary number within 1-249. I analyzed the chart on the same day at 8:38:02 PM in Hyderabad using Geocentric latitude correction and KP Straight Line Adjusted Ayanamsa value of 23 Deg 56 Mins 30 secs. The cusps used for arriving at the prediction were 3, 9, and 11 th cusps from 7th, which means cusps 9, 3, and 5 respectively. The Moon of the unrotated chart reflected the query by 4 signifying houses 3 at planet level, 7 at Starlord level and 5 at the sublord level. The other signification of Moon—10, 2, 1, and 4—denoted that the husband of the querist was seeking a change in the job due to increase in post and pay not due to any problem in the workplace. The lady confirmed this. In the rotated chart, the 7 th cusp sublord Venus denoted 10, 6, and 3, 3 rd cusp sublord Jupiter denoted 3 and 9, 9 th cusp sublord Jupiter denoted 3 and 9 and the 11 th cusp sublord Moon denoted 3. So, the call for the interview was definitely to be received by the husband of the querist. The time for receiving the call for the interview was arrived after taking the help of Ruling Planets at the time of judgment. The Lagna was ruled by Mercury-Jupiter-Saturn and the Moon was ruled by Jupiter-Venus-Saturn. The fruitful significators were considered as Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn. The running Dasa-Bhukti-Anthara (DBA) was that of Venus-Saturn-Mercury. All these planets were in the list of fruitful significators. I decided that the matter has to come out during Jupiter Sookshma period. It was found that Venus-Saturn-Mercury-Jupiter period operated from 30 th December 2007 to 21 st January 2007. The lady was informed that her husband would be receiving a call during this period. However, the call was actually received on 5 th December 2006 and the lady was more than pleased at me for telling her that her husband would be receiving the interview call. But I was totally displeased at my wrong timing. Upon discussing this matter with some senior KP astrologers of Hyderabad, I was told to look at the same prognosis using the KP Old Ayanamsa. With this input, I re-casted the horary chart with the Ayanamsa value of 23 Deg 51 Mins 47 Secs. The chart is provided in the next page. There is no change in the sub lordship of any cusps or planets except the Fortuna. However, the longitude of Moon and other planets have changed along with the longitudes of the 12 cusps. 5 Therefore, a change in the longitude of Moon due to the change in the value of Ayanamsa gave different timings of the Dasa balance. It was found that the same Venus Dasa, Saturn Bhukti, Mercury Anthara and Jupiter Sookshma operated during 17 th November 2006 to 9 th December 2006. Since, the analysis was done on 24 th November 2006, it was clear that the result would have occurred between 25 th November 2006 to 9 th December 2006. 6 To conclude, therefore, I would like to say that in the above case example, using KP Old Ayanamsa brought us into the actual period of fructification of results. The choice the fruitful significators gave us the DBAS but the timing of this DBAS changed due to different values of the Ayanamsa. Though there was no change in the sub lordship of the 12 cusps and 9 planets in this case, it may definitely happen when the degrees rising on the various cusps are near their transition. And in such situation, the entire analysis may go wrong because the fundamental premise of KP astrology depends upon the planetary lordship of the cusps and planets. I conclude this article with best wishes to the editor of this electronic magazine.
