RAW DATAHypotheses 1) A majority of participants will not know that mechanical and medical components are placed with equal importance in planning for missions and compete for the same amount of limited space. A majority of participants with a NASA background will correctly identify the importance. 2) A majority of survey participants will believe that an array of medical diagnostic and treatment equipment is available for all likely medical scenarios and that physician level medical care is required for all missions. 3) A majority of participants will believe that crewmembers are always in constant, instantaneous contact with a mission control center. A majority of participants with a NASA background will correctly identify there is not constant contact. This is to draw light to the many complexities medical components are faced with in planning and to show how medical components are also affected and restricted by every other aspect of the mission. Crew members on the International Space Station are always in constant contact with mission control. True or False? Communication delays can be an issue on exploration missions. True or False? Medical components are subject to space restraints. True or False? Physician level care must be provided on the International Space Station. True or False? Physician level care must be provided for long-range exploration missions. True or False? Risk factors pertaining to medical and engineering components are weighed equally. True or False? *Correct answer is bolded While there were no specific criteria, the participants targeted were generally middle -class 93% 91% 50% 39% 36% 38% 0% Question 9 Question 10 Americans of all age ranges. A total of 60 *Decimals rounded to nearest whole NASA Relations No NASA Realtions respondents completed the survey. Overall METHOD CONCLUSION This survey was conducted through Survey Nuts, a superiority of medicine compared to other aspects , specifically was spread though social media platforms in an engineering. On questions 6 and 14, which actually looked at attempt to get a broad array of American medicine in comparison, I was correct in that a majority participants. DATA mistakenly believed that medical aspects are placed over engineering ones; however my belief that those with a NASA Percent Correct 95% 93% 80% 40% background would be correct was inconclusive with it being 100% 100% 60% *Note: NASA relations was determined by meeting the criteria on at least 2/3 of the determining questions (numbers 3, 4, & 5) The first hypothesis looked at people’s beliefs on the free, internet-based survey platform. The survey correct on question 14, but not on 6. Almost everyone correctly identified the space restrictions on medicine . 64% The second hypothesis looked at misbeliefs on medical 48% 36% 45% 20% standards of care. Overall, the data agreed with my 43% 37% hypothesis that a majority would mistakenly believe that medical preparation is comprehensive of all possibilities, 0% which as an impossibility due to various restrictions. The Question 6 Question Question 11 14 *Decimals rounded to nearest whole NASA Relations No NASA Relations Overall majority was, however, slim. The third hypothesis looked at people’s beliefs on the availability of contact with mission control, an important factor in the necessity of training for medical emergencies. No Medical components and preparation for spaceflight take priority over all other aspects in planning, including engineering components. True or False? An array of medical diagnostic tools is available on the International Space Station. True or False? PARTICIPANTS Hypothesis #1 QUESTIONS Percent Correct100% time. A majority did not realize this, as I predicted . This misbelief was pretty even across both NASA backgrounds and non-NASA backgrounds with a slim variance. Question 10 looked at communication issues on exploration missions, with an overwhelming majority agreeing that it was an issue, opposing my hypothesis in this case. This was again even across both groups. Overall, my hypotheses were mostly correct.
