[email protected] www.snvworld.org/uganda PREFACE SNV Netherlands Development Organisation has since 2014 partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in implementing purchase for progress (P4P) initiative project in south western Uganda. In 2014, the project supported 900 households to increase grain production and farm productivity; addressed issues related to grain quality and counterfeit Agroinputs. In 2015, SNV continued supporting the 900 households in Kasese and Kabarole, but also expanded its operations to Kamwenge; supporting additional 2,300 households. The main focus for the project was on market linkages with regards to farm commodities, agro-inputs and financial services. In total, over 5,357 households benefited from the Purchase for Progress (P4P) intervention in 2014/2015. The P4P intervention seeks to address challenges related to lack of a reliable supply of agroinput to farmers, address financial constraints, promoting collective trading, reducing post-harvest losses and ensure metrological information is available to farmers in the region through; 1. Linking farmers to agro-inputs markets 2. Linking farmers to financial markets 3. Linking farmers to commodity markets 4. Linking farmers to metrological and market information service providers 5. Building capacity of farmer organization leaders in store management 6. Training farmers in post-harvest handling and food quality management In order to consolidate the above gains, SNV committed to develop a Grain Agribusiness Directory for South Western Uganda as a future point of reference to the farmers supported under the project. The directory consists of contact details of key actors in the grain especially maize and beans value chain in South Western Uganda. It also includes other stake holders at national level responsible for creating an enabling environment to grain trade. We are grateful to WFP who made the funding available.
