L ATI SHA WEBB, DI RECTOR OF OPERATI ONS Ice Breaker Roster/Attendance Field Work/Hands-on Projects Class Expectations/Grading System Service Coordination/Peer Mentoring Adult Education Refresher Course Overview of 16 Divisions and the Ruler Renovating the Inner House Life Skills/Homework Assignment 3 rd Floor Assessment Class Ends/Test Scores/Schedule Intake Appts Icebreaker Icebreaker Get into Pairs Share your names with one another Make 1 statement using the word on the sticky Come back to the group and introduce your partner and tell everyone his/her name and statement Roster/Attendance Roster/Attendance Attendance earns pts 41 class days (off Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Year’s) 10 pts per day=400 pts Accumulation of pts begins Thursday, Oct 30 Attendance is taken 5:35 pm. All late students will be sent to Service Coordinator (Excused or Unexcused) Roster/Attendance Instructors will do a roll call and put an X in the column for students who are present, an A in the column for absent students, or an L in the column for late students Then the Instructors will pass around the attendance log Find and sign next to your name on attendance log Roster/Attendance All late arrivals must see Service Coordinator who will log the reason for your lateness. If you are having personal issues, they are here to assist you to provide referrals and support Every lateness (excused or unexcused) deducts 5 pts from daily attendance pts Students who miss 5 days excused or unexcused will be dropped from the role. Roster/Attendance Any phone use/texting, horseplay, substance use, violence, disrespect, etc. will not be tolerated during class time. If a student has to be addressed 3 times due to engaging in these activities, then he/she will be sent home and lose attendance pts for the day. Field Work/Hands-on Projects Field Work/Hands-on Projects A minimum of 60 hours of Fieldwork/Hands-on Projects are required for this course Fieldwork will be scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays with Ms. Carr. These hours are not the same as some class projects that may be conducted on Thursdays. Ms. Carr will make weekly announcements of scheduled hands-on projects. Everyone must complete 60 hours by Sat., March 14, 2015. Field Work/Hands-on Projects Each student is responsible for ensuring his/her accumulation of 60 hours. Each hour = 10 pts. Students can earn a minimum of 600 pts for Fieldwork/Hands-on Projects Students can not work more than 4 hours at a time. Any additional hours must be approved. There will be no extra credit for additional hours. All safety protocols must be adhered to. Any phone use/texting, horseplay, substance use, violence, disrespect, etc. will not be tolerated during fieldwork. Students will be asked to leave the job site if they engage in these activities. Class Expectations/Grading System Class Expectations/Grading System Students can earn up to 1500 points 100 pts= The ‘Demolition Begins!’ Paper 400 pts = Attendance 600 pts = Fieldwork/Hands-on 100 pts = The ‘Renovation Complete!’ Paper 100 pts = Midterm Exam 100 pts = Final Exam 100 pts = Quizzes (10 quizzes/10 pts each) Class Expectations/Grading System Students can earn up to 1500 points A=1500-1200 B=1200-900 C=900-600 D=600-300 F=300 and Below Class Expectations/Grading System Important Dates The ‘Demolition Begins!’ Paper: Tuesday, Nov 5, 2014 Final Basic Education Assessments: Wednesday, Dec 17, 2014 Midterm Exam: Tuesday, Dec 23, 2015 Midterm Report Cards: Tuesday, Jan 6, 2015 The ‘Renovation Complete!’ Paper: Tuesday March 24, 2015 Final Exam: Tuesday & Thursday, March 24 & 26, 2015 Graduation: Tuesday, March 31, 2015 (TBA) 10 Pop Quizzes (TBA) The Demolition Begins! Paper The Demolition Begins! Paper This paper is due at the beginning of class on Tues., Nov 4, 2014 as a part of the Renovating the Inner House Life: Skills, and Training component. Students must write about a paradigm or thought process that has hindered them in the past and must be demolished to progress in the future. Students are required to write 6 -pages front side only doubled-space (every other line) or type 3-pages doubled-space. Name, date, and page number must be on every page. Grammar or punctuation are not imperative and will not be used as a part of the grading system. This paper is worth 100 points. Service Coordination/Peer Mentoring Service Coordination/Peer Mentoring Every student must have an intake appointment with the Service Coordinator. Every student must have a minimum of 3 individual sessions with the Service Coordinator by end of the course. Ms. Crum and Mrs. Tynes will be here on Tuesdays and Thursdays before, during, and after class. There may be additional days offered for individual sessions. Service Coordination/Peer Mentoring Minds of Men, Mr. Hayes and Mr. McKnight, will be here on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for peer mentoring. They have office hours on Wednesdays for referred students and/or walk-ins. These services are voluntary. Adult Basic Education Refresher Course Adult Basic Education Refresher Course Based on initial scores 70 or below, students will be enrolled in the 6-week Adult Basic Education Refresher Course. Mr. and Dr. Dawson will teach the course every Wednesday starting Nov 5, 2014. The dates for the Adult Basic Education Refresher Course are Nov 5 Nov 12 Nov 19 Dec 3 Dec 10 Dec 17 Adult Basic Education Refresher Course Math class: 5:30-7 pm Break: 7-7:15 pm English class 7:15-8:30 pm Adult Basic Education Refresher Course Students will retest at the end of the 6 weeks (Wed., Dec 17, 2014). Students who do not pass the retest with a 71 or above will be referred to adult basic educational programs for ongoing support. 16 Divisions & The Ruler 16 Divisions & The Ruler 1.
