HP StorageWorks EVA4400SAN Starter Kit quick installation Finding more information Section 3. Installing HBAs This document provides an overview of the steps to install the HP EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit. For more information, see the list of information sources in the HP EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit release notes. The release notes and all documents referenced in this document are available at: HP AJ762A HBAs must be installed in server PCI-e slots. HBA installation procedures vary by server; however, the following procedure is typical: http://www.hp.com/support/manuals 3. Remove the blank panel from an empty x4 or higher PCI-e bus slot. Under Storage, click Disk Storage Systems, and then under EVA Disk Arrays, select HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array. For HP Command View EVA, select Storage Software and then HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software. 4. Insert the HBA into the empty PCI-e slot, and then press firmly to seat the HBA. 1. Ensure the computer is powered off. 2. Open the server cover. 5. Secure the HBA's mounting bracket to the case with the panel clip. 6. Close the server cover. Section 1. Preparing the site HP Command View EVA can either be installed on a management server connected to an EVA (server-based management) or on the EVA4400 management module (array-based management). This document addresses both. To ensure continuous, safe, and reliable operation, ensure that the EVA4400 operating environment meets the following requirements: Table 1 Site requirements Input voltage 180–254 VAC Input frequency 47–63 Hz Input current per array at 208 VAC 2.8 A Total system power 524 W at 208 VAC Operating temperature 10°–35°C (50°–95°F) Humidity 10%–90% non-condensing Clearance Front: 406 mm (16 inch) Rear: 300 mm (11.8 inch) Section 4. Connecting the hardware The EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit is available factory-integrated or field-installed. The factory-integrated EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit arrives with the EVA4400 installed in the rack and cabled. The remaining task is to connect fiber optic cables from the controller ports to each server HBA. For information about installing the EVA4400 in a rack, see HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array installation guide. 1. Remove the dust caps from the connectors on the SFP transceivers and fibre optic cables you will be using. 2. Install an SFP transceiver in a switch port. 3. Connect a fiber optic cable between the controller ports and the HBAs ( Figure 1). The other SP ports will remain unused. Figure 2 Array-based management Section 5. Powering on the components Follow this sequence to power up the components: 1. Apply power to the main power supply in the rack. 2. Apply power to the power strips in the cabinet. 3. Wait for a solid green LED indicator on the enclosure power supply. 4. Power on the EVA by pressing the power/standby button on the front panel of the controller enclosure. The LED on the power/standby button changes from amber to solid green to indicate that the EVA has been powered on. © Copyright 2008 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. The following items are included in the factory-installed HP EVA4400 SAN Starter Kit. Verify that you have all the items listed before beginning the installation. This scenario assumes that servers are available for the topology. • HP StorageWorks EVA4400—Includes one controller enclosure and dual HSV300-S controllers with embedded SAN switches, and one disk enclosure with eight disks, all preinstalled in the rack • Four HP StorageWorks AJ762A 8 Gb PCI-e HBAs —To be installed in the servers connected to the EVA4400 • HP EVA4400 SAN Starter media kit—Includes HP StorageWorks SmartStart EVA Storage with HP StorageWorks Command View EVA management software • HP 2m Multi-mode OM3 LC/LC FC cables—Used to connect the switch to the HBAs • 8 Gb SFP transceivers—Inserted into the switch ports • License entitlement certificate for HP StorageWorks Command View EVA—Four 1 TB (4 TB total) general licenses 5. Wait (up to five minutes) for the EVA to complete its startup routine and for the Fibre Channel switches to boot. 6. Apply power to the servers in the SAN with access to the EVA. CAUTION: Figure 1 HA (or dual-fabric) SAN connections 4. For array-based management, connect the management module LAN connector to an Ethernet hub using an Ethernet cable, and then connect either a laptop or server to the same hub using an Ethernet cable. Alternatively, you can connect a computer through the Ethernet cable directly to the management module LAN connector (Figure 2).
