PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW ! AND I am thankful for all the great people of this world and also our great country, America. But OBVIOUSLY, there are LIMITS to the effectiveness of MASS IMMIGRATION to America. Is there any other country that allows more immigrants in than America? And is there any other country where immigrants have a GREATER SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT than America ? For a while, the WORLD had fun BASHING on Americans –calling some Americans “ugly Americans” for the large sense of entitlement they had when they traveled abroad, but has this now REVERSED TO THE EXTENT that there are other ethnicities and nationalities that are much more ‘UGLY’ than the average American ? I see an EXAMPLE of it almost every day here in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. There’s the IMMIGRANT who races to grab a seat before me as he senses me moving towards it. There’s the IMMIGRANT on the freeway, who just a few days ago was a friendly person still in Mexico—NOW he thinks he must be DOG-EAT-DOG on the American freeway. There’s the IMMIGRANT COP who just got a job as a police officer and is looking for somebody to pick on—preferably an 2 American born here. That’s the pecking order mentality. There’s the IMMIGRANT who ‘NO SPEAK ENGLISH’ when it is not convenient. We all SUFFER for the language barrier or language reversal as it may be at times. Is there ANY LIMIT to how many immigrants we will accept and without some sort of TRUE SYSTEM for monitoring their allegiance ? Talk about the problem of terrorism---the OBVIOUS ACTS OF TERRORISM such as SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 may pale in comparison to the SUBTLE, SLOW-BUT-SURE, INFLUX OF PASSIVE TERRORISM in the USA. http://www.suncatchersdelight.com/suncatchers/cross_celtic_lg.jpg What is PASSIVE TERRORISM ? It is the REFUSAL of immigrants to acculturate or assimilate to America’s GOOD standards (not the bad ones). It is the REFUSAL to stand and say the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE at school. It is the REFUSAL to learn the language . And it is also the REFUSAL to treat AMERICA-BORN-AMERICANS with respect & admiration, and a little bit of deference. If I go to SPAIN I try to treat the people of SPAIN with a little bit of deference in terms of trying to use their language and ask them about their country, and in general show a little respect towards them for their culture, their nationality, and their way of life. Likewise, I would HOPE that immigrants to America might show a little bit of interest in us as Americans, and NOT just come here for ECONOMIC or GREED purposes. When did the AMERICAN DREAM become simply AMERICAN GREED ? Too many IMMIGRANTS think the AMERICAN DREAM means GRAB ALL YOU CAN AS FAST AS YOU CAN, to HELL with 3 everybody else. As the priest as St. Simon & Jude Catholic Church in Huntington Beach said last night at VIGIL MASS, it’s a DOG-EATDOG society here in America . And yet, IMMIGRATION OFFICIALS keep opening the door to MORE IMMIGRANTS, seemingly without much check at all whatsoever. And it is the AVERAGE AMERICAN SUCH AS MYSELF trying to make it here in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA as a Christian evangelist who may NOTICE IT THE MOST. The immigration officials and other government officials safely tucked under their blankets in their big spacious homes do not, in general, notice the ‘TWO-FACED GAMES IMMIGRANTS PLAY . NOR do many of our police truly understand, appreciate, or care much about the problem of immigrants who NO SPEAK ENGLISH . When I opened my first ministry office in Pasadena, the possibly-illegal immigrant couple who cleaned the office complex actually started HARRASSING ME as if I was a NEWBIE to America, when I was simply a new person at the office, NOT a new American. Of course that’s another STRANGE PHENOMENON about immigration—THEY love the PECKING ORDER—or at least play by some of the rules when it works to their advantage, sometimes in the strangest of ways. The immigrant clerk has NEVER seen you before in “their” neighborhood store—the RALPHS, RITE-AID, VONS, whatever—and you walk in and they INSTANTLY know –NOT that you are new to America but that you have NEVER been to that particular store before. And they try to CAPITALIZE on the moment. It’s a very strange phenomena. That’s why I spend SO MUCH TIME making myself a FAMILIAR FACE around SOUTHERN CAL. Growing up in Grand Rapids—to become familiar doesn’t take too long. West Michigan is relatively small, and being DUTCH and part of the CRC can be helpful. And it always makes me wonder why some of these NON-Dutch end up in the CRC ? 4 The GREENWAYS, for example—WHAT are they doing in the CRC ? It doesn’t make sense. The DUTCH CRC and RCA started as an ETHNIC CHURCH—for people with WEIRD DUTCH NAMES such as myself. It was a HAVEN from the persecution of the immigrant American world. I still, occasionally, get persecuted for righteousness sake because of my name—which is why I actually CHANGED my name by usage—which sometimes helps, BUT not always. Even IMMIGRANTS who, themselves, sometimes feel persecuted end up doing the SAME to others. IT is a VICIOUS CYCLE. And you can understand to a certain extent why they feel a ‘DOUBLE IDENTITY’ – MEXICAN and AMERICAN. OR El Salvador & American. Sometimes they get accepted as true Americans, other times because of their color or the way they look, act, or dress, they get treated like immigrants, or worse, illegal immigrants. Some of them GIVE UP on trying to be American, and give up on saying the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE etc. But GIVING UP is NOT an option. Every immigrant has to WANT TO BE AMERICAN and WANT to be here. This is not a QUITTER COUNTRY, and so I don’t want to here them whining about being treated unfairly. I was BORN here in America and I get TREATED UNFAIRLY all the time as well. I get treated UNFAIRLY even by my own ETHNIC DUTCH CRC church for that matter—which I pledged allegiance to at a very young age, but they did not, over time RECIPROCATE. We live in a DOG-EAT-DOG WORLD, but does that mean we should quit ? HECK NO ! We keep trying to the VERY END—and ONLY 5 GOD KNOWS when that end time comes. WE never take our own lives because of perceived hardship or difficulties. That is a MAJOR OFFENSE TO GOD. GOD HAS A PLAN FOR YOU, and ME. And didn’t PAUL THE APOSTLE say: When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted , we endure it; when we are slandered, we answer kindly. 1 Cor 4:12-13 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted , but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed 2 Cor 4:7-9 And it was JESUS CHRIST our SAVIOR, Himself who said : Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt 5:10 These are VERSES that come to mind when I am feeling DOWN TRODDEN, and persecuted and MISTREATED and sometimes even angry about the way things are here in America or in general about the world. And I a reflect on HOW DIFFERENT it was only a few decades ago for my parents and grandparents who seem to have had a MUCH BETTER WAY OF LIFE for themselves. 6 And I reflect on my DAD, JIM KOK, and what seems like a life of EASE and PROSPERITY in Christian ministry, compared to my own downtrodden lifestyle as a Christian evangelist. The contrast is striking. Jim Kok went from seminary to being a SENIOR PASTOR almost immediately out of seminary. He became a CPE SUPERVISOR in a hospital setting a few years later. And YET he now PREACHES that young people should WAIT for leadership NOT only a few years longer than he, himself, waited, but DECADES. And RICH MOUW, the former philosophy professor at Calvin College –turned president of FULLER SEMINARY—here’s a fellow who socialized with my dad at our house on Griswold Street back in Grand Rapids for many years. Any time the ASH TRAY was put out—I knew the MOUWS were coming over. GOOD OL’ RICH loved that pipe and filled our home with his smoke, without apology. And LINDA—the perfect wife & mom—TAUGHT piano lessons, was the perfect host for MOUW and family, she even tried to be the PERFECT DAUGHTER for so long. And it was all WRONG. I FEEL sorry for my mom. She was USED by my dad, Jim Kok, and USED by Richard Mouw—like many of the Dutch-American woman are STILL being used by the Dutch-American man in the name of being “Christian.” For that matter I began to realize OVER TIME that my own TRADITION—the DUTCH CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH was not so much “CHRISTIAN” as it was an ETHNIC CLUB. And yet some women want to be USED by this system. THEY choose their persecution. My sister, SISSY, also chose such—and she regularly WHINES ABOUT IT (even though she did not marry a DutchAmerican) but yet WANTS IT THAT WAY. SO I CAN’T FEEL TOO SORRY for some of them if they DON’T WANT OUT and accept it, as is. They have CHOSEN their poison, so to 7 speak. Don’t complain if you don’t want out. Or have they been brainwashed ? Some say so. Of course the DUTCH ETHNIC CRC system is still trying to MANIPULATE THINGS to their advantage. Even my dad KEEPS TRYING. First, he moved my stuff out of the Crystal Cathedral office when I w as going through seminary. Then he moved it all to a back corner of a backyard, and then he started trying to control the way I arranged things. But way before that he was trying to control. You’ve heard of how PRIESTS in the Catholic Church molested boys. Well, this was NOT just a Catholic thing—it happened in Protestant churches as well. And it’s not so much that priests were sexually interested in boys but that if they could get boys to compromise themselves sexually they have CONTROL over them. It’s a POWER & CONTROL thing. And PROTESTANTS are not strangers to power & control motives. In the case of my dad & my uncle Gary (as well as a few others in the ETHNIC CHURCH ) they tried to convince me that it was good & necessary to MASTURBATE as a youth. And they used the SOCALLED “MEDICAL MODEL” to justify their propaganda. I DIDN’T BUY IT, however, and it INFURIATED THEM. If they couldn’t get me to compromise myself sexually they couldn’t control me, and if there is one thing that INFURIATES a good ol’ DUTCH MAN it is not being able to control others, especially those who are younger than themselves. But yet OUR CONTROL AS CHRISTIANS should be A CONTROL THAT LIBERATES others— not liberty to indulge one’s self, but LIBERTY TO BE FREE TO SERVE GOD—truly serve GOD. There are “Christians” who do NOT understand this—and the 8 ETHNIC CHURCH –IF THIS IS NOT AN OXYMORON—is possibly MORE in danger of NOT truly understanding the gospel AND the FREEDOM OF the CHRISTIAN LIFE than others. FREEDOM TO BE AN ADDICT TO SEXUALITY ? ALCOHOL? DRUGS ? THAT’S NOT FREEDOM AT ALL ! don’t preach to me that it’s okay to go get STONED, drunk, TO jerk off (a euphemism for masturbation), that’s NOT freedom—that’s SLAVERY ! Those who THINK OTHERWISE are seriously confused and misguided and perhaps mentally ill. Unfortunately within the CRC (the ethnic church denomination in which I grew up ) there is MISGUIDED ANGER towards the church and denomination --based on a misperception that they were made slaves to the church or denomination—when in fact they CHOSE to be SLAVES TO SIN. At some point YOU must CHOOSE whether you will be SLAVES TO CHRIST to set people free , truly free, or whether you will be part of the COUNTER-REFORMATION and keep people ENSLAVED to ignorance, addiction, the pecking order, and all other human-derived institutions of slavery. WE talk about the black man being ENSLAVED in America as a MAJOR SIN and BLIGHT in America for too many years—and YES that was AN OBVIOUS EXAMPLE of a sinful practice, but like OBVIOUS ACTS OF TERRORISM there may be a LESS OBVIOUS INSTITUTION OF SLAVERY and TERRORISM still happening on a daily basis in America and around the world. We talk about CHINA being an oppressive society—of ignoring human rights but here in America we STILL have problems. OPEN YOUR EYES to the truth. GOD 9 OPENED MY EYES. I see the problems daily. And I won’t BACK DOWN . GOD sent me to liberate the captives : The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor Isa 61:1-2 YES , my parents and RICH MOUW VAN WING, and GARY KOK FLIPPER, and the GREENWAY-WING WONGS and LEO PETERS-MALONEY and DAVE ENGELHARD-CLAPPER JR. and STEVE BRINKSJELLYJAY, and JACK HolWIERDA- JR., and BETSY O. and RICK DEVRIES ORTIZ as well as STEVE DEVRIES SANCHEZ, and MIKE van DENNEN RODRIGUEZ, and JOHN DOUMA YANG as well as ANDY KOK SILLY TAPIA and ENGELBERT SLANDERSON HERNANDEZ , and DAVE DEJONGCHONG and many others were MIXED UP and MESSED up AND some of what they did was WRONG! And even worse sometimes it was done in the ‘NAME OF THE CRC” or in the name of “religion” OR even, GOD FORBID, in the “name of 10 CHRIST” but NOW I press onward and move forward THANKFUL that GOD SET ME FREE because I refused to be ENSLAVED TO addiction and untruth and ignorance. They wanted me to become a “jerkoff” at the expense of my integrity and faith and commitment to CHRIST but I REFUSED to commit perjury to my faith, and I REFUSED to be a TRAITOR AWAY FROM GOD.
