Introduction to Nakshatatra & Marriage compatibilityInfertility – A Vedic Astrology insight into its causes and cure. Part II For females: In a female chart we add together the longitudes of Mars, Moon and Jupiter, and remove the multiples of 360º. The sign thus arrived at is called Kshetra Sphuta or the longitude of the ground. If the Kshetra Sphuta falls in an even sign and is nourished by conjunction or aspect of benefic planets, there is strength in the female to conceive…………………………..In both cases malefic planets like Saturn, Rahu, Ketu and Mars should neither be conjunct nor aspecting these sensitive points. In addition to this, these planets should not fall in the fifth from the Beej and Kshetra Sphuta points…………………..It is also important that these points do not fall in signs rules by Saturn, Sun and Mars…………………When analyzing the causes of infertility, the horoscopes of both partners need to be studied minutely. Beej and Kshetra Sphuta should be worked out and compared. This gives a pointer to the riddle as to which partner needs remedies. Compatibility – The Asht Koot system: Vedic astrology has the famous Asht Koot system of finding compatible partners. It has an inbuilt system of making certain that a couple will be able to enjoy satisfying sex and have children together. After all this is one of the primary goals of getting married. Unless someone is an ascetic, enjoyment of life remains uppermost on every one’s agenda…………………..The system looks for eight parameters when comparing horoscopes and gives a mathematical strength to each. In a perfect match the two charts will have a maximum of thirty six points. This is an ideal condition that is rare. The maximum I have seen is thirty four. ………………………….The eight parameters mentioned above are Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Grahmaitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. In a separate article we shall go in detail about every one of these, but the needs of the present one are satisfied with only two. The Yoni and the Nadi. Yoni is a Sanskrit word and imperfectly translates as Vagina. It refers to the mentality of partners as also to matching of their bodily desires and reproductive organs. Yoni is important and gets a total of four points. Four out of four in two charts is ideal but is seldom achieved………………………Nadi refers to the three Nadis or energy channels that connect the Sahastrara (the thousand petaled Lotus) to Mooladhar Chakra or the root chakra. These three Nadis are called Adi, Madhya and Antya and correspond to Ida, Sushumna and Pingla. Rajiv Sethi: Your questions and comments are very welcome. [email protected] or visit my website at http://indian- vedicastrology.com It is a sad fact of life in Western countries that there exists a high failure rate in relationships. Statistics reveal that about one in three marriages, or worse, will end in divorce. There are, of course, many reasons why couples ultimately break up, but they usually have their basis in a lack of compatibility. How can ‘relationship compatibility’ be measured?.....................There are various astrological (and psychological) methods for assessing the compatibility between two people, for marriage, friendship and for business partnerships……………Traditionally Vedic Astrology uses a system involving matching the Moons to determine if the charts of the two people planning to marry are in general agreement with each other. This is known as The Kuta System. The Importance of Astrological Counseling: Since it is based on the Moon entirely, the Kuta system is predominantly a measure of the flow of consciousness, the vital life force between the couple, and how this energy harmonizes in the relationship. It is not meant to be an indicator of karmic compatibility, but rather an opportunity for love to flow between the couple. If the Moons do not match favorably, then there may well be other astrological indicators in their charts which support their compatibility, but they may have to face the fact, consciously or subconsciously, that there is a lack of harmony on this fundamental level of consciousness…….It is very easy, with modern computers and advanced astrological software, to click a few buttons and produce a compatibility score based on this system, without appreciating the meaning and implications of the various Kuta factors, and then rush to the conclusion that the couple are, or are not, suited for marriage…….Actually, a deficiency in the score of certain Kutas can help identify where the energy blocks exist in the relationship. Most Vedic Astrologers in the West can, however, probably relate stories of happy marriages where the Kuta score is low, and give examples of divorces where the Kuta score was high……..It may be, with those divorced couples scoring highly on the Kuta rating, that one incompatible area has become a major issue in the relationship, which, with proper astrological counselling, could have been worked through. On the other hand, couples with a low Kuta score may choose to focus and build on the few really good factors in the marriage, while accepting their differences in other areas. I think the most important point here is good counselling from the astrologer since there can sometimes be a fine line between staying together to resolve a difficult issue and breaking up the relationship………… It seems that the primary role of the astrologer in this type of situation is to act as a counsellor in giving support to the couple, in helping them to understand the difficulties they may be experiencing and, hopefully, to give them a better understanding of themselves and their relationship with the Cosmos. In addition to the Kuta system, there are many other indicators of compatibility to look for in the charts of the couple. The Kuta System: Most modern Vedic Astrology software has this feature for comparing two charts, in which a score out of 36 points is given, based on matching the Moons in the two charts, although in practice I think the maximum possible score is 35. Essentially, it relies on comparing how well the Moon Nakshatra (and Moon rashi) of one partner aligns with the Moon Nakshatra (and Moon rashi) of the other partner, and if the final score is 18 or more the match is said to be favourable. A score of 25 or higher is said to indicate a very good match. The Kuta System examines 12 factors based on the Moon’s relative position in the two charts. Briefly, these are: 1. Varna Kuta (1 point), which compares the castes of the Moon rashis (not Nakshatras): Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra. It is said to be an indicator of the spiritual development of the couple. 2. Vashya Kuta (2 points), which measures magnetic attraction, is based again on the Moon sign compatibility, not Nakshatras. 3. Dina (or Tara) Kuta (3 points) is based on the relative position of the two Moon Nakshatras, and is said to give good fortune and longevity. 4. Yoni Kuta (4 points) measures sexual compatibility, and is based on matching the various animals that are represented by the 27 Nakshatras. 5. Graha Maitram (5 points) simply compares the natural planetary friendship between the lords of the Moon rashis (not Nakshatras), and this is said to measure psychological compatibility. 6. Gana Kuta (6 points) compares the psychological temperament of the couple by comparing the agreement of the Nakshatra ‘temperaments’: Deva (divine), Manusha (Human) and Rakshasa (Demon). 7. Rashi Kuta (7 points) is based on the relative Moon rashi positions, indicating various auspicious and inauspicious factors such as longevity, happiness/sorrow, wealth/poverty, children, health and prosperity. 8. Nadi Kuta (8 points) compares the ayurvedic temperaments (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) of the couple’s Moon Nakshatras, which indicates how their psycho-physiological energies resonate with each other. This is also said to indicate spiritual compatibility, and this Kuta is obviously very important due to the large number of points awarded. 9. Mahendra (no points given) is an indicator of progeny and longevity of the relationship, and is measured by the relative position of the two Moon Nakshatras. 10. Stree-Dirgha (no points given) also is an indicator of longevity and general auspiciousness, and again is based on the relative position of the two Moon Nakshatras. 11. Rajju (no points given) is an indicator of longevity of the marriage, and is also based on the relative position of the two Nakshatras. 12. Vedha (no points given) is based on the fact that some pairs of Nakshatras are mutually incompatible, and a marriage is not recommended between two people who have their Moons in these mutually afflicting Nakshatras. It can be seen that 4 of the Kutas do not contribute to the overall score (of 36 points), but one should not overlook these. According to Ernst Wilhelm, Vedha is a very serious affliction which can ruin a relationship. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Gana in Astrology: Each person has a Gana according to his or her horoscope. There are 3 Ganas 1) Dev Gana ( Devine ) 2) Manushya Gana ( Human ) 3) Rakshas Gana ( Demonic ) Gana represents the temperament of the person & it is very important during matching of girl's horoscope with boy's horoscope for marriage purpose. In Kalaprakasika Gana compatibility is must for Kshatriyas. It is considered good if both the girl & boy are of Dev Gan or Manushya Gan or one is Dev & orther is Manushya Gan . Manushya or a Dev boy should not marry a Rakshas girl unless there are other neutralizing factors . However marriage between a Rakshas boy & a Dev or Manushya girl is possible. If marriage is brought about between prohibited Ganas there will be quarrels & disharmony. Cancellation of Gana Dosh : 1) If the bride's star ( birth Nakshtra ) counted from that of the boy is above 13 , the evil effect will be warded off & their horoscopes can be matched . 2) If the Janam Rashis of the couple is the same or if the lords of the Janam Rashis either happen to be friends then the horoscopes can be matched According to Hindu Vedic Astrology maximum 6 points (6 Guns) are given to Gana. Below Given Details Of Gana & Points: Boy -------Girl------- Points Dev--------Dev------------- 6 Dev-------Manushya------ -6 Dev------- Rakshas-------- 0 Manushya--- Dev---------- 5 Manushya--- Manushya---- 6 Manushya--- Rakshas----- 0 Rakshas------ Dev--------- 1 Rakshas------ Manushya—0 Rakshas------ Rakshas---- 6 Gana of a person is determined from his or her birth Nakshtra . There are 27 Nakshtras & below I will give details on Nakshtra & Gana 1) Dev Gana : Person who are borh in Ashwini or Mrigshira or Punarvasu or Pushya or Hasta or Swati or Anuradha or Sravan or Revathi Nakshtra are said to be Dev Gana . 2) Manushya Gana : Person who are borh in Bharni or Rohini or Ardhra or Poorvaphalguni or Utraphalguni or Purvashada or Uttraashada or Poorvbhadrapada or Uttrabhadrapada are said to be Manushya Gana . 3) Rakshasa Gana: Person who are borh in Krithika or Ashlesha or Magha or Chitra or Vishakha or Jyeshta or Mool or Dhanishta or Satabisha are said to e Rarkshas Gan . …………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Nakshatara Compatibility Summary Deva Gana Manushya Gana Rakshasa Gana Ganam Ganam (Sobanam Ganam Evacha): This koota ensures compatible sex life. It is the matching of the human minds and their temperaments. Aswani Bharani Krithika Mrigasira Rohini Ashlesha Punarvasu Ardhra Makha Pushya Poorvaphalguni Chitra Hasta Uttaraphalguni Visaka Swathi Purvashada Jyeshta Anuradha Uttarashada Moola Sravana Poorvabhadrapada Dhanishta Revathi Uttarabhadrapada Satabisha Species (Ganam): The 27 nakshatara are divided into three categories of nine nakshatras each. Each category of nine nakshatara indicates one of the three Ganas viz Divine Nakshatras (Devata), Human Nakshatras (Manushya) and Demonic Nakshatras (Rakshasa). The Nakshatras are classified into three groups on the basis of the species namely If the nakshatras of the boy and the girl belong to the same species, it is highly compatible. Combination of Divine and human nakshatras are medium other combinations are inauspicious and not compatible. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Yoni (Yonitho Dhampathy Sneham): Sexual type: The nakshatras possess sexual organs and sexual habits of creatures. Creatures of a similar type will have greater sexual compatibility than those which are radically dissimilar and which are naturally inimical to each other. For example,a rat would not be happy if married to a cat and a deer to a Tiger or Lion………………..If the nakshatras of the boy and the girl are Janma Enemies/Opponents, then the matrimonial alliance is declined outright. No reliefs or remedies are entertained to this non-compatibility. There are two kinds of Yoni Kutas. One is the Male and the other is the Female Yoni Kutas. Every Nakshatras has an animal of sexual joy, mutual attraction and love. Out of 27 Nakshatras 14 numbers are considered as Male Yonis and 13 numbers are considered as Female Yonis. ………………..It is best sex compatible if both partners are born Nakshatras which symbolizes the same Yoni type but different sexes. If both Nakshatras are Male there maybe friction and quarrelling. If both are Female there maybe lack of initiative and inertia. The following animals are hustle animals which are to be avoided for Yoni Kuta: Cow & Tiger…….Elephant & Lion….Horse & Buffalo…….Dog & Deer…….Serpent & Mongoose….Monkey & Goat…Cat & Rat Yoni (Yonitho Dhampathy Sneham) Sexual compatibility: Guna Points 4 No. Nakshatra Animal Nakshatra Animal 1 Aswini Male Horse: Ashva Satabisha Female Horse: Ashva 2 Bharani Male Elephant:Gajah Revati Female Elephant: Gajah 3 Rohini Male Snake:Sarpa Mrigasira Female Snake:Sarpa 4 Pushya Male Goat:Chaga Kritika Female Goat:Chaga 5 Magha Male Rat:Mushaka Poorvaphalguni Female Rat:Mushaka 6 Aslesha Male Cat:Maarjaat Punarvasu Female Cat:Maarjaat 7 Uttaraphalguni Male Cow Uttarabhadrapada Female Cow 8 Visakha Male Tiger:Vyaghra Chitra Female Tiger:Vyaghra 9 Swati Male Buffalo:Maheesha Hasta Female Buffalo:Maheesha 10 Jyehsta Male Deer:Mriga Anuradha Female Deer:Mriga 11 Moola Male Dog:Shawan Ardra Female Dog:Shawan 12 Uttarashadha Male Mongoose:Nakula 13 Poorvashadha Male Monkey:Vaanar Sravana Female Monkey:Vaanar 14 Poorvabhadrapada Male Lion:Simha Dhanshita Female Lion:Simha This is another koota which is interpreted in two ways. The word Yoni indicates the private reproductive organ of women. So it is said that presence of Yoni Koota is a must to ensure sexual compatibility. Each star is having certain animal force associated with it. They are: Cow and tiger, elephant and lion, horse and buffalo, dog and deer, rat and cat, goat and monkey, snake and mongoose are declared enemies to each other. The stars of mutual enemies do not agree. If they are of same yoni but only enemy to each other as dog and cow they agrees as secondary. This agreement confers mutual love between husband and wife. SIGNIFICANCE OF YONI IN MARRIAGE: It is very important to match Yoni of girl & boy prior to their marriage as Yoni indicates sexual compatibility. Same Yoni gets 4 points, friendly Yoni gets 3 points , neutral Yoni gets 2 points & malefic Yoni gets 1 point …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… http://www.dari.co.in/matchmaking-yoni/ Marriage between the same Yoni is best and gives 4 points. Friendly Yonis gives 3 points. Neutral Yonis gives 2 points Unfriendly Yonis gives 1 point Enemy Yonis gives 0 point Deduct one point if Yonis of the same sex. Nakshatara & Yoni [1 st Male eg horse – 2 nd Female eg horse Yoni] No. Nakshatara Yoni Intense Enemy The different nakshatara are said to possess the ‘Yonis’ of different animals. The birth nakshatara of the bride and the groom should indicate the Yonnis of animals that are not mutually hostile. If they indicate the same Yoni or neutral yoni, it is considered desirable. The nakshatara pairs, their relevent Yonis and the intensely inimical Yoni are indicated in the table: 1 Aswini / Satabisha Horse Buffalo 2 Bharani / Revati Elephant Lion 3 Kritika / Pushya Goat Monkey 4 Rohini / Mrigasira Serpent Mongoose 5 Ardra / Moola Dog Deer 6 Punarvasu / Aslesha Cat Rat 7 Magha / Poorvaphalguni Rat Cat 8 U phalguni / U bhadrapada Cow Tiger 9 Hasta / Swati Buffalo Horse 10 Chitra / Visakha Tiger Cow 11 Anuradha / Jyehsta Deer Dog 12 Poorvashadha / Sravana Monkey Goat 13 Uttarashadha / Abhitjit Mongoose Serpent 14 Dhanshita / Poorvabhadrapada Lion Elephant When the groom and the bride belong to the same yoni, they earn 4 points. If they belong to the intensely inimical Yonis, they get no points. In case of mutually friendly Yonis, they get 3 points, neutral Yonis 2 points, and for simply inimical Yonis only 1 point. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. It is considered as the most important of the ten kootas as it ensures a long life for the husband. The group stars make up a figure. The groups form foot, thigh, middle, neck, and head. They are as follows: If both the stars of the boy and girl come in the same portion as foot or head or neck etc there is no agreement. If they happen to be in the same line as head, the husband will die, if in the neck, the wife will meet death, if in the middle loss of children, if under thigh extreme poverty and if under foot pitiable wanderings. This is a very important agreement. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Vedha Aswini Anti to Jyehsta Vedha (Vedhaya Sohanasanam): 'Vedha' means affliction. If the birth stars of the boy's and girl's are not in agreement (vedha) to each other then generally health affects (both mental and physical health). Otherwise a happy and prosperous married life is assured as a result……..Certain stars are mutually anti or opposite to each other. The star of boy and girl should not be mutually anti to each other. They are as follows: Mrigasira, Chitrai, Dhanishta are mutually anti to each other. This vedha agreement is very important like Rajju agreement. Happiness cannot be obtained if they are anti. Happiness cannot be obtained if they are anti. …………………………………………………………………………………… Rasi Agreeable Rasis Vasya ( Vasyath Anniyonnia Vasyaham ) Aries Scorpio, Leo Taurus Cancer Gemini Virgo It is believed that the presence of this koota agreement assures mutual love and attachement. The Rasi for both the boy and girl should be agreeing to each other. This confers mutual affection between couples. Cancer Sagittarius, Scoprio Leo Libra Virgo Gemini, Pisces Libra Capricorn, Virgo Scorpio Cancer Sagittarius Pisces Capricorn Pisces Aquarius Virgo Pisces Aries …………………………………………………………………………………….. (1) Sacred Bondage (Rajju): The first and foremost aspect is the compatibility of ‘Rajju’, a Sanskrit word meaning ‘sacred Bondage’. According to Hindu rites, the bridegroom ties the sacred cord in the neck of the bride with three knots or wears a gold chain in the neck of the bride as a mark of accepting her as the licensed wife. Thus the boy and the girl are bonded together for living as husband and wife for good. This bondage is regarded as a sacred one………………..The ‘Rajju’ is classified into five parts. They are: (1) Siro Rajju meaning Fore-Head portion (2) Ganda Rajju meaning Back head portion (3) Uthara Rajju meaning Top portion of the body (4) Thodai Rajju meaning the portions around the Thighs and (5) Pada Rajju meaning the portion below the knee. Each nakshatra falls into the category of one of the above five parts. If the nakshatras of the boy and the girl fall in the same part, then the matrimonial alliance is declined outright. No reliefs or remedies are entertained to the non-compatibility. (2) Sexual type: The nakshatras possess sexual organs and sexual habits of creatures. (3) Species (Ganam): The Nakshatras are classified into three groups on the basis of the species namely Divine Nakshatras (Devata), Human Nakshatras (Manushya) and Demonic Nakshatras (Rakshasa). If the nakshatras of the boy and the girl belong to the same species, it is highly compatible. Combination of Divine and human nakshatras are medium. Other combinations are inauspicious and not compatible. (4)Nakshatra (Birth Star) Compatibility: (1) Counting is done from the nakshatra of the girl in order upto the nakshatra of the boy. This counted number is divided by 9 and if the remainder is 3 or 5 or 7, then both the nakshatras are not compatible to each other. (2) If the boy and the girl possess the same nakshatra, then matrimonial compatibilty is available (i) if the parts of the nakshatra are not one and the same for both of them (ii) if the part of the nakshatra of the girl falls in one Rashi (constellation) and the part of the nakshatra of the boy falls in another rashi (constellation),the part of the nakshatra of the boy should precede that of the girl. (iii) Rohini, Ardra, Magha, Hasta, Vishaka, Shravana, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revathi possess excellent compatibilty. (iv) Ashvini,Krittika,Mrigashirsha,Punarvasu,Pushya,Purva Phalguni,Uttara Phalguni,Chitra,Anuradha,Purva Ashadha,Uttara Ashadha possess average compatibilty. (v) All other nakshatras do not possess compatibility. (2) if the nakshatra of the girl and the nakshatra of the boy falls in the same rashi (constellation), the nakshatra of the boy should precede that of the girl.If the nakshatra of the girl is one among the following 8 nakshatras namely Ashvini, krittika,Rohini,Magha,Hasta,Swati,Purva Ashadha,Shatabisha, the nakshatra of the girl may also precede that of the boy. (5) “Sthiri Theergam”: “Sthiri Theergam” indicates the death of the wife before that of the husband, especially after living a happy or satisfied married life. This is considered as auspicious and blissful for a woman…….Counting is done from the nakshatra of the girl in order upto the nakshatra of the boy.If this counted number is not less than 7, then “Sthiri Theergam” compatibility is available. If this counted number is more than 13, then “Sthiri Theergam” compatibility is excellent. (6) “Mahendram”: Mahendram means accumulation of wealth. Counting is done from the nakshatra of the girl in order up to the nakshatra of the boy. If this counted number is 4-7-10-13-16-19-22-25, then “Mahendram” compatibility is excellent. (7)“Rashi (constellation)” compatibility: If Counting is done from the rashi (Constellation) of the girl in order upto the rashi (Constellation) of the boy and if the counted number exceeds 6 ,then “Rashi(constellation)” compatibility is excellent. (8) Compatibility of the Rulers two rashis (Constellations): If the Rulers two rashis (Constellations) are friends, the compatibility is excellent. If the Rulers two rashis (Constellations) are Neutral, the compatibility is Average. If the Rulers two rashis (Constellations) are Enemies, the compatibility is poor. (9) Natural attraction (“Vasya”): Certain Rashis (Constellations) have natural attractions towards vertain other Rashis. This tendency is found in the following ways. Natural attraction between Rashis (Constellations) of the boy and the girl promotes close affinity with each other. (10) Nadi (Pulse): Nadi means ‘Pulse’. Planets which occupy by a nakshatra have their nature influenced by that nakshatras’ pulse, which is its Ayurvedic Consttitution. If the nakshatra of the girl and the nakshatra of the boy falls in the same Nadi, then there is no Compatibility. (11) Inauspicious combinations of Nakshatras (Vedai): There are certain combinations of nakshatras which do not promote marital harmony. The nakshatra of the girl and the nakshatra of the boy should not have the following combinations. (12) Kuja Dosha (Blemish of Mars): When Mars occupies the houses 1,2,4,7,8,12 kuja dosha occurs in a horoscope.it is counted from: Lagna (ascendant) Moon and Venus. When Mars recurs in all these three positions, it is virulent. Mangala is a name for Mars.Kuja dosha does not promote marital harmony and indicates marital misery.Exceptions to Kuja Dosha is: Anyone who has Kuja Dosha can safely marry anyone else who also has a Kuja dosha of approximately equal strength. The two combinations will cancel each other out. Mars reaches maturity at the age of 30 years. Therefore, anyone who has a Kuja Dosha will be acquitted or relieved from the Kuja Dosha on reaching the age of 30 years. Mars in its own or exaltation constellation cancells the dosha or greatly modifies the Dosha position. The prescence of Moon in the house Mars occupies cancels Kuja Dosha. (13) Lagna (ascendant): Lagna indicates the insight into the mind of a person, the lines of thinking and the way of approaching .Therefore, the Lagna of the boy and that of the girl should be in Kona (1-5-9) or in Kendra (1-4-7-10) places to each other. when the Lagna of the boy and that of the girl happens to be in the 7th position to each other, the compatibility is excellent and there cannot be any difference of opinion between the two and the thinking of the two sail together. So,when the Lagnas of the boy and that of the girl are in 3-6-8-12 places to each other or more particularly,if they are in 6-8 places to each other, the boy and the girl do not possess identitical minds or thinking.Unless other factors favourably and strongly recommend the proposition of marriage, the 6-8 position of the Lagna would not reconcile. (14) Rulership Period of the Planets (Dasha): Dasha indicates the ruler ship period of the Planets which dictate by turns in an established order. The events in the course of the life of a person are determined by the period of rule of Planets. The events in a man’s life is scheduled and sequenced in a period of time. So, one has to find out whether the current period of rule of a planet pave the way for a concrete future towards the marriage proposal and whether the periods of rule of the succeeding planets in future are reconciled to the advantage of the couple. If the boy’s horoscope indicated good dasha throughout his life and if the girl’s horoscope indicated bad dasha, the fortunes of the boy are blocked or slowed down. i.e. When a cart is pulled by two bullocks, both the bullocks should go in the same direction for a smooth and safe travel. If one of them is lame or slow or unhealthy or pull in a different direction or does not cooperate, the match is not perfect. (15) Blessing of Children: It is natural that the couple has to give birth to child or children for inheritance and to be taken care of in the later stages in life. A Child acts as a hinge between the mother and the father and binds them together in any eventuality. This aspect is seen by the placement of the planets in the 5th place, the ruler of the 5th place, the natural significator Jupiter and other planetary aspects. If a malefic planet influences the 5th place, particularly, the blessing of children, in both the natal horoscopes of the boy and the girl, then the compatibility is very carefully arrived at. If a misfortune is foreseen and if there is no possibility of a remedy or relief, there is no compatibility at all. (16)Tree: The nakshatras possess Characteristic features of Trees. Trees of a similar type will have greater compatibility than those which are radically dissimilar and which are naturally inimical to each other. (17)Birds: The nakshatras possess habits of Birds. Birds of a similar type will have greater compatibility than those which are radically dissimilar and which are naturally inimical to each other. (18)Kalathira Dosha: The seventh house Lord when sits in the house of the Lagna and aspects its own house, Kalathira dosha emerges. This means, there owner of the horoscope has two spouses. There may be one side love or love failure or last minute cancellation of the marriage or death of spouse or divorce or separation etc. This has to be reconciled with an appropriate horoscope in matching. (19) Kala Sarpa Yoga (The serpent of time): When all the seven planets from the Sun through Saturn are situated in between Rahu and Ketu, it is called ‘Kala Sarpa Yoga’. This creates difficulties on (1) the house ruled by any planet which is conjoined by either Rahu or ketu (2) the houses ruled by one or both of the dispositors of Rahu and ketu and (3) The houses Rahu and ketu occupy. (20) Bhava (malefic effects): Jupiter and Venus are Natural Benefics.Saturn,Mars,Rahu and Ketu are Natural Malefics.Sun is cruel. Moon is Natural Benefic when waxing.i.e.when moving from New to Full.Otherwise,it is a Natural Malefic.Mercury is a Natural Benefic when associated with the Natural Benefics and Natural Malefic when associated with the Natural Malefics. (1) When Malefic Planets occupy the houses 1,2,4,7,8,12 counted from (i) Lagna (ascendant) (ii) Moon and (iii) Venus, the malefic effect is 100% (2) If Mars sits in the 12th house, the Malefic effect is 25% (3) For Ruler ship of Malefic Planets, the Malefic effect is 50% (4) If the Ruler of the house in which the Malefic Planet sits is (iv) In an Exalted Position, then the Malefic Effect is 75%. (v) A friend, then the Malefic Effect is 25%. (vi) An Enemy, then the Malefic Effect is 100%. (vii) In a Debilitated Position, then the Malefic Effect is 125%. When the Bhava (malefic effects) of the Girl and the Boy is in the ratio 1:2,the Compatibility is excellent. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Points to Remember: 1. Allocation of Parts of Human Body to Nakshatras: (K.T.Shubhakaran) a. Each Nakshatra governs certain parts of the body. b. Affliction to a Nakshatra by malefic planets affects the concerned part of the body. c. Find out the Nakshatra placement of a malefic planet in a chart. d. Then find out the parts of the body governed by that Nakshatra e. Proper care may be taken to that part of the body. f. In addition propitiation of the malefic planet may be done for relief as mentioned under each Nakshatra. 2. Rajju Porutham (http://www.raajayogam.com/) a. Rajju Porutham is attached greater importance in marriage matching process. b. The reason is that Rajju Porutham is considered as ensuring the Maangalya Bakyam of the Girl. c. The 27 Nakshatras are grouped into 5 categories. Each category is assigned a name representing a segment of the human body. d. The general principle is that the Boy and the Girl should not belong to the Nakshatras which fall under the same Rajju. This means Eka Rajju is incompatible. e. The important factor is that because Rajju signifies the Maangalya Bakyam, no one is prepared to make a compromise on this Porutham. The 5 Groups of Rajju are a. Sirasu Rajju b. Kanda Rajju c. Udhara Rajju d. Ooru Rajju e. Paada Rajju. The Nakshatras of the Girl and the Boy should not fall within the same Rajju. Then, it is considered as Eka Rajju and becomes incompatible and mis-matching. Sirasu Rajju comprises the following Nakshatras. (Mrigaseersham, Chithirai and Avittam). Kanda Rajju comprises the following Nakshatras. (Rohini, Hastham, Thiruvonam, Thiruvadirai, Swathi and Sadayam) Udhara Rajju comprises the following Nakshatras. (Krithigai, Uthiram, Uthiradam, Punarpoosam, Visakam and Poorattathi) Ooru Rajju comprises the following Nakshatras. (Bharani, Pooram, Pooradam, Poosam, Anusham and Uthirattathi) Paada Rajju comprises the following Nakshatras. (Aswini, Makam, Moolam, Ayilyam, Kettai and Revathi) If both the Boy and the Girl belong to any of the above class of Nakshatras, they fall under Eka Rajju. It constitutes Rajju Dosham and is incompatible. It should be ensured that both the Girl and the Boy do not fall under the same Rajju Group of Nakshatras. If the Nakshatras of the Girl and the Boy fall under the same Rajju, it constitutes Rajju Dosham. Such horoscopes are mutually incompatible. It is a belief that if the horoscopes are free from Rajju Dosham, the Girl will have a lasting Mangalya Bakyam. 3. Gana Porutham 1. If the Girl and the Boy belong the same classification of Ganam, it is most appropriate. This is known as Eka Ganam. 2. If the Nakshatras of the Girl and Boy Deva Ganam, or if both of them are Manusha Ganam, it is considered as best matching. 3. If it is not Eka Gana Nakshatras, if the Girl is Deva Ganam and if the Boy is Manusha Ganam, it is considered as moderately matching. 4. If the Boy is Deva Ganam and if the Girl is Manusha Ganam, it can also be considered as matching to some extent. 5. There is a school of thought that if Girl belongs to Manusha Ganam Nakshatra and the Boy is of Deva Ganam Nakshatra, it can be considered as matching if the Boy's Nakshatra is beyond 13 Nakshatras from the Girl. Some claim that a difference of 7 Nakshatras is enough. 6. If the Girl is Manusha Ganam and if the Boy is Raajasa Ganam, it is considered as matching if other matching parameters are satisfactory. 7. Eka Ganam in Raajasa Ganam is not considered appropriate. 8. Raajasa Ganam of a Girl is described as NOT matching with any Nakshatra, so for as Gana Porutham is concerned. 9. But, 9 out of the 27 Nakshatras are Raajasa Ganam. Girl children are born in these 9 Raajasa Ganam Nakshatras. They have to get married. 10. If we apply the above principles, no girl child born in any of the 9 Raajasa Ganam Nakshatras will ever get married. 11. We only have to make a balanced approach. Generally Raajasa Gana Nakshatras - particularly the Girls are a bit talkative. It may not and can be common to all. In a majority of cases, it is so. 12. Generally Raajasa Ganam Girls and even Boys may not have the way of submissive talk. 13. Generally they are harmless and innocent. Only they will not mind who are in the surrounding and whether a matter can be talked in a particular manner in that situation. 14. This will pose a problem in their relationships - both within the family and outside the family. People who prefer submissive way of talk will not like this approach. 15. With a view to overcome this impediment, it is advisable that Raajasa Ganam Girls are matched with other Raajasa Ganam Boys or Manusha Ganam Boys with a difference of over 13 Nakshatras. 16. This will provide some tolerance between the two. 17. As prescribed in ancient days, Raajasa Ganam Girls need not be altogether set aside. 18. If other matching parameters are by and large good, Gana Porutham with respect to Raajasa Ganam should be approached with the above facts in mind. 19. If there is adequate difference of Nakshatras from the Girl to the Boy, Raajasa Ganam can also be accepted provided other matching parameters agree to a reasonably good extent. 4. Dosha Nakshatras 1. For a long time since, it is strongly believed that certain Nakshatras are Dosha Nakshatras for the girls. 2. But the same Nakshatras are not considered to be Dosha Nakshatras to the boys. 3. It may appear that even our Sastras have shown discrimination between a girl and a boy in considering the same values in respect of a horoscope study. 4. Everything envisaged in our ancient Sastras, had some strong reason or reasons behind it. 5. This aspect of showing a discriminatory approach to certain Nakshatras between a boy and a girl should be looked into in the light of the then being socio-economic conditions and family set up. 6. The following Nakshatras of the girls were attributed with the consequntial effects as given below. Moolam Nakshatra is believed to take a stake on the life of the father-in-law. Ayilyam Nakshatra is believed to take a stake on the mother - in - law's life; Kettai Nakshatra is believed to take a stake on the elder brother-in-law's life; Visakam Nakshatra is believed to take a stake on the younger brother-in-law's life. 7. It is also believed that only the first two paadams of the respective Nakshatras are virulent, effective and worth fearing and the 3rd and 4th Paadams are not considered as important. 8. While the horoscopes matching process ensures the protection of a girl, coming into the family of a boy, it also laid some emphasis on the safety of other persons in the boy's family. 9. The girl is coming into the boy's family and forms part of it. She is going to live in the same house where the father-in- law, mother-in-law, elder brother-in-law and younger brother-in-law are also living which means the family is a joint family set-up for the consideration of the above Dosha Nakshatras. 10. The boy is not going to the girl's family and make a living in that house and become a part of the family members and as such, such a Dosham was not attributed to the Boy's Horoscope. 11. When a girl's Nakshatra was considered as affecting or influencing some other member of the family, it was on the concept that they all lived together . 12. In the modern days, the father, mother, son and daughter have to separate and live in an altogether different place - away from their joint home - for the purpose of education and employment. 13. The family's living status is not all the same that was some years back. Like a girl being separated from her family after the marriage, the modern economic conditions have brought in separation of the son also from the family - in some cases - even the husband and wife are separated on account of their jobs. 14. When a boy gets married, he is not going to live with his parents or grand parents. His employment necessarily compels him even before the marriage to live in a separate place. 15. A family consisting of a father, mother, sons, daughters, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law are all only conceptual and practical in the present day scenario. 16. Obviously, the family of a newly wed boy is going to be nucleur and not necessarily a joint family with the father, newly married son, the brothers (other sons) together in one family. 17. In the changed economic and social order, when the newly married son is going to live separately and not as a joint family with his brothers, the question of applying the Doshams in respect of Visakam and Kettai Nakshatras does not carry any consideration. 18. Similarly, when the parents are not going to live with the boy after the marriage, the question of applying Moolam or Ayilyam Nakshatras of the girl will also not arise. 19. Even living together as a joint family, our traditional belief that the 3rd and 4th Paadams of Moolam and Ayilyam Nakshatras are not harmful, is equally a consideration we have to bear in mind. 20. I strongly believe that our forefathers would not have prescribed these as Dosha Nakshatras under the then being social order. 21. I also strongly believe that the Nakshatra of the girl newly coming into the family frame, can change the fate of someone in the family, who can otherwise survive the fate. 22. If something bad happens to anyone in the family because of the arrival of a girl with a Dosha Nakshatra, the same bad thing should have happened even if the girl with a Dosha Nakshatra did not arrive into the family. 23. A Dosha Nakshatra of a girl can not re-write the fate of any other person, if his/her fate is already alright. A Dosha Nakshatra may be an indicator of something bad and it can never be a creator of anything bad. 24. If it were to be so, the basics of Astrological study itself will be shaken if such an eventuality is not destined to the affected person. It may or may not be evident in the horoscope. 25. Astrologers are not supposed to be explicit or obvious or even reveal about anything bad. But unless the person concerned is having such a destiny, nothing untoward will happen, just because a girl with a Dosha Nakshatra is married into the family. 26. This false belief that the girl's Dosha Nakshatra has caused the damage to the life of some other person itself has caused irreparable damage to the lives of several girls. This fear has to be first thrown away. God has not created one human to kill another human. That never happens. 27. If anything bad has happened after the entry a girl with a Dosha Nakshatra into the family, the same thing should have happened even if the girl was not married into the family. 28. Dosha Nakshatras are not Dosha Nakshatras by their character - but they can be indicators in some cases to something unpleasant. 29. An horoscope influences only the person to whom it belongs. Relatively it may have some indications as to its surroundings. It does not infer that a Dosha Nakshatra causes damage to someone else. 5. Raasi Porutham 1. Raasi Porutham is one of the important factors in horoscopes matching. This generally indicates what naturally the temperament of the horoscope person is and tries to evolve a cohesive theory that the two horoscopes are capable of going together in life to make a cohesive family. 2. In general, the 6th place, the 8th place and the 12th place are known as hidden places in a horoscope. 3. If the Raasi of the Girl and the Boy fall in 6th, 8th or 12th place to the Raasi of the other one, it is considered as not matching. In a broad sense, if this aspect is satisfied, Raasi Porutham can be considered as matching. 4. In the normal course, Sama Sapthama Raasis - that is if the Raasis of the Girl and the Boy are 7th to each other - it is considered as most appropriate. 5. But this Sama Sapthama Raasi principle will not apply to Katagam & Makaram Raasis and also Simham & Kumbam Raasis. 6. Though Katagam / Makaram and Simham / Kumbam are Sama Sapthama Raasis, these are not matching raasis. 7. Normally, except Katagam, Makaram, Simham & Kumbam, the 7th Raasi from that of the girl is most appropriate. In addition, 1st Raasi (Eka Raasi) - subject to some conditions, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th 10th and 11th Raasis from the Raasi of the girl are also considered as matching. 8. In the case of Eka Raasi - that is if the Raasi of the Girl and the Boy are one and the same - it is desirable that the Girl's Nakshatra falling before the Boy's Nakshatra are avoided. This however, need not be followed as a mandate. 9. In the case of Eka Raasi where the Girl's Nakshatra falls before the Boy's Nakshatra, Aswini, Krithigai, Rohini, Makam, Hastham, Swathi, Sadayam and Pooradam are the Girl's Nakshatra, that are exempted from the common rule that the Girl's Nakshatra should not fall before the Boy's Nakshatra in an Eka Raasi. Again, this need not be considered as a mandate. Sashtashtaga Dosham: If the Girl's Raasi and the Boy's Raasi fall on 6th or 8th to each other, then it is considered as Sashtashtaga Dosham. This is a general indicator of Sashtashtaga Dosham. There are exemptions. There are certain certain Sashtashtaga Raasis which are exempted. In Tamil Astro terminologies, these are called Anuhoola Sashtashtagam. Such Anuhoola Sashtashtaga Raasis are not Doshams - and they can well be considered as matching to each other. Such Anuhoola Sashtashtagams are favourable matches in so far as Raasi Porutham is concerned. The Girl's Raasis exempted from Sashtashtaga Dosham in respect of particular Boy's Raasis are follows: Girl's Raasi Boy's Raasi Mesham >>>> Kanni Midhunam >>>> Vrichigam Thulam >>>> Meenam Dhanur >>>> Rishabham Kumbam >>>> Katagam If Mesham, Midhunam, Thulam, Dhanur or Kumbam is the Raasi of the Girl, it is exempted from Sashtashtaga Dosham from their respective 6th Raasi Kanni, Vrichigam, Meenam, Rishabham and Katagam respectively. Other Raasis falling 6th or 8th from the Girl's Raasi suffer Sashtashtaga Dosham. Thwi-Dwadasa Dossham: If the Raasi of the Girl and the Boy are the 12th and 2nd to each other, it is called Thwi-Dwadasa Dosham. For example, if Mesham is the Raasi of the Girl and Meenam is the Raasi of the Boy, Mesham is the 2nd Raasi from Meenam and Meenam is the 12th Raasi to Mesham. Such Raasis of the Girl and the Boy next to one another fall under Thwi-Dwadasa Dosham. In the also, there are exemptions. If Rishabham, Kanni, Vrichigam or Meenam is the Raasi of the Girl, Thwi-Dwadasa Dosham is exempted with the Raasi which is 12th to the Girl's Raasi. For example, if Rishabham is the Raasi of the Girl, If the Boy's Raasi is Meenam, it is exempted. If the Boy's Raasi is Midhunam which is 2nd to Rishabham, the exemption will not apply. Raasi Athipathi Porutham: In addition to Raasi Porutham, Raasi Athipathi Porutham ensures greater understanding and cohesiveness in a family life. Another consideration that can support this Porutham is that, when one horoscope is running a Maha Dasa - favourable or unfavourable - if the Lords of the Raasis of both the horoscopes are friendly in nature, it will be far good to elicit maximum benefits from the Maha Dasa. For going into Raasi Athipathi Porutham, we should ensure that the Lords of the two Raasis of the girl and boy are friendly to each other. If the Lords of both Raasis are mutually friendly, it is far good. If one Raasi Athipathi is friendly to the other and the other is neutral to the other, it is moderately matching. If both Raasi Athipathis are mutually neutral to each other, it is also moderately matching. If one Raasi Athipathi is friendly to the other and the other one is rival to the first one, it is not matching. If one Raasi Athipathi is neutral and the other one is rival to the former one, it is not matching. Broadly based on the above, let us look at which Raasi of the Boy will match with which Raasi of the Girl. Mesham & Vrichigam are the two Raasis for which Sevvai is the Athipathi. Budhan is rival to Sevvai. Sevvai is rival to Sani As such, Mesham & Vrichigam will not match with Midhunam, Kanni, Makaram and Kumbam. Rishabham & Thulam are the two Raasis for which Sukran is the Athipathi. Sooriyan & Chandran are rivals to Sukran. Sukran is rival to Guru. As such, Simham, Katagam, Dhanur & Meenam will not match with Rishabham & Thulam. Midhunam & Kanni are the two Raasis for which Budhan is the Athipathi. Chandran is rival to Budhan. Budhan is rival to Guru. As such, Katagam, Dhanur & Meenam will not match with Midhunam & Kanni. Katagam is the Raasi for which Chandran is the Athipathi. Chandran is rival to Budhan & Sukran. As such, Katagam will not match with Rishabham, Thulam, Midhunam & Kanni. Simham is the Raasi for which Sooriyan is the Athipathi. Sukran, Sani are rivals to Sooriyan. As such, Simham will not match with Rishabham, Thulam, Makaram & Kumbam. Dhanur & Meenam are the two Raasis for which Guru is the Athipathi. Sukran & Budhan are rivals to Guru. As such, Rishabham, Thulam, Midhunam & Kanni will not match with Dhanur and Meenam. Makaram & Kumbam are the two Raasis for which Sani is the Athipathi. Sooriyan, Chandran & Sevvai are rivals to Sani. As such, Simham, Katagam, Mesham & Vrichigam will not match with Makaram and Kumbam. Excepting the above combinations of Raasis, all other Raasis can be conceived as matching for the purpose of Raasi Athipathi Porutham Sevvai Dosham: Sevvai Dosham is also known as Guja Dosham or Guja Dosh. It is also known as Manglik or Manglik Dosh in the northern part of our country. In a horoscope, if Sevvai (Mars in English and Mangal in Hindi) is in the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th houses from the Lagna or Chandran or Sukran, the horoscope is supposed to suffer from Sevvai Dosham. A horoscope with Sevvai Dosham should not be considered as matching for marriage with a horoscope which does not suffer from Sevvai Dosham. This is the general rule. If a horoscope with Sevvai Dosham is married to a horoscope without Sevvai Dosham, it is feared that the life of the spouse will be endangered. Now it need not necessarily be a demise.: In modern days, it can be taken the other way around also. In the case of incompatible Sevvai Doshams, it may, instead of risking the life of the spouse, may result in a long term separation, legal separation (divorce) or frequently disrupted marital relationships, taking away the peace of mind. The conclusion need not necessarily be the demise of the spouse. As we have seen earlier, a Sevvai Dosham is constituted if Sevvai is in the 2,4,7,8 or 12th house from the Lagna, Chandran or Sukran. Sevvai Dosham is exempted under several conditions. In some cases there are varying versions of exemptions. But most of the exemptions are common in different versions. The following are the exemptions for Sevvai Dosham, even if Sevvai is in the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th houses from the Lagna, Chandran or Sukran. In the case of exemption to Sevvai Dosham, it should be taken as if the horoscope is not suffering from Sevvai Dosham, since the same is offset by the exemption. The exemptions are: 1. Whatever be the place of Sevvai in a horoscope, if Sevvai is in his exalted house (Uchcham) Makaram, or ruling houses (Aakshi houses) Mesham and Vrichigam, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 2. Wherever is Sevvai in a horoscope, if the Lagna of the horoscope is Katagam or Simham, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 3. Whatever is the place of Sevvai with reference to Lagna, Chandran or Sukran, if Sevvai is in Simham or Kumbam, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 4. If Sevvai is in Simham, Katagam, Dhanur or Meenam Raasis, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 5. If Sevvai is associated with Sani, Raahu or Kethu or if Sevvai is receiving the aspect (Paarvai) of Sani, Raahu or Kethu, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 6. If the Lord of the house where Sevvai is positioned in the horoscope, from where Sevvai Dosham is constituted, is either in Kendra Sthanas or Thri-Kona Sthanas, (1,4,5,7,9,10 houses), Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 7. If Sevvai is associated with Guru or Chandran, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 8. If Sevvai is in the 2nd house from the Lagna or Chandran or Sukran, and if such a 2nd house happens to be Midhunam or Kanni, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 9. If Sevvai is in the 4th house from Lagna, Chandran or Sukran, and if such a house is Mesham or Vrichigam, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. (In Mesham and Vrichigam, Sevvai Dosham is also exempted as a general rule. 10. If Sevvai is in the 7th house and if the 7th house is Makaram or Katagam, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 11. If Sevvai is in the 8th house, and if the 8th house is Dhanur or Meenam, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 12. If Sevvai is in the 12th house, and if the 12th house is Thulam or Rishabham, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. 13. If Sevvai is associated with Sooriyan or Budhan or aspected by Sooriyan or Budhan, Sevvai Dosham is exempted. If - and only if - Sevvai in the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12 house from Lagna, Chandran or Sukran, does not fall under any of the above exemptions, it should be conceived that the horoscope suffers from Sevvai Dosham. Normally it is believed that a horoscope with Sevvai Dosham should be married only to a person with Sevvai Dosham. Otherwise, it is feared to have an impact on the life of the spouse. No one will dare risk the chances of life. As such, it has not been tried otherwise - atleast as far as my knowledge goes. Hence the concept of Sevvai Dosham has necessarily to be applied in all horoscopes matching as a social necessity.. Marriage compatibility is an important contribution of Jyotish to the world as only it can foresee any problems in the married life of a couple and can precisely determine which area shall the problem root from. This is done with kuta matching as enumerated by Harihara in his immortal classic Prasna Marga. However, it is not possible to match all the kutas and here we must appreciate that nothing in this world is perfect and we need to compromise at various places. Compromises may be made in various kutas, however it should not be made in the five important kutas namely vasya, mahendra, yoni, Janma Rasi and lord of the Janma Rasi. There are three more kutas, which are to be considered very important, viz., gana, dina and stree-deergha. Besides this the Brahmins should also consider Gotra Kuta. There are two kinds of Kuta, one which contribute points towards the 36 point scheme and the other does not. The Kutas which contribute to the 36 point schemes are Nadi, Rasi, Gana, Graha Maitri, Yoni, Dina, Vasya and Varna in the decreasing order of importance, with nadi kuta contributing the maximum of 8 points and Varna Kuta contributing the minimum of 1. Even though these kutas can be used for getting a mathematical value of relative compatibility, what is more important is to understand the nature of compatibitlity. Thus, the kutas which do not contribute to the kutas need not be ignored and checked for various aspects of marital relationship. Point based Kuta: the maximum points that can be attained in each of the kutas are mentioned against each of the kuta in brackets. 1. Nadi Kuta: (8) Compatibility of physiological aspects Nadi means several things but in reference to astrology, it signifies pulse or nervous energy indicating the physiological and to a certain extent hereditary factors. The Hindu medical works enumerate three Nadis or humours, viz., Vatha (wind), Pitha (bile) and Sleshma (phlegm). A boy with a predominantly windy or phlegmatic or bilious constitution should not marry a girl of the same type. The girl should belong to a different temperament. The three Nadis are ruled by the different constellations as follows: Vatha (Wind) Pitta (Bile) Sleshma (phlegm) Vata Pitta Sleshma Aswini Bharani Krittika Jyeshata Anuradha Visakha Ardra Mrigasira Rohini Moola Poorvashadha Uttarasnadha Punaravasu Pushyami Aslesha Satabhisha Dhanishta Sravana Uttara Phalguni Purva Phalguni Makha Poorvabhadara Uttarbhadra Revati Hasta Chitta Swati Principle: If the constellation of the groom and bride fall in different columns, then agreement between the couple will be good. If the stars of the bride and groom fall in the first of last column, it is passable; however they should not fall in the middle column. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… NAKSHATRA YONI GAN NADI Refrence Table: http://www.aryabhatt.com/astrology_software/vedic.htm Yoni Gan Nadi Asvini Ashva Dev Adya Bharani Gaja Manushya Madhya Krittika Mesh Rakshash Antya Rohini Sarp Manushya Antya Mrigsira Sarp Dev Madhya Ardra Shwan Manushya Adya Punarvasu Marjar Dev Adya Pushya Mesha Dev Madhya Rakshash Marjar Rakshash Antya Magha Mooshak Rakshash Antya P. Thus, the different quarters will be governed by the three humors (Nadis). Beginning from Aswini 1, the counting should be done forwards and backwards in threes as given below: Vatha (Wind) Pitta (Bile) Sleshma (phlegm) Aswini 1 Aswini 2 Aswini 3 Barani 2 Barani 1 Barani 4 Barani 3 Barani 4 Krittika 1 Krittika 4 Krittika 3 Krittika 2 Rohini 1 Rohini 2 Rohini 3 In the example considered above, both the constellations fall in the middle line and hence Nadi Kuta is completely absent. http://www.salagram.net/synastry9page.htm 12. Nadi Kuta. - This is considered to be the most important and at the same time the most significant Kuta. In Sanskrit, Nadi means several things but in reference to astrology, it signifies pulse or nervous energy indicating the physiological and, to a certain extent, hereditary factors. The Hindu medical works, such as Ayurveda, Shushruta samhita, Nimi Tantra etc., enumerate three Nadis or humours, viz., Vatha (wind), Pitha (bile) and Sleshma - Kapha (phlegm). A boy with a predominantly windy or phlegmatic or bilious constitution should not marry a girl of the same type. The girl should belong to a different temperament. The three Nadis are ruled by the different constellations as follows:- VATA PITHA SLESHMA (kapha) Aswini Bharani Krittika Punarvasu Pushyami Aslesha Uttara Purva Makha Hasta Chitta Swati Jyestha Anuradha Visakha Mula Poorvashadha Uttarashadha Satabhisha Dhanistha Sravana Purvabhadra Uttarabhadra Revati Aridra Mrigasira Rohini If the constellation of the boy and the girl fall in different rows, then agreement between the couple will be good. They both should not fall in the middle least there will be many fights, as they are too fiery by nature. Stars of the couple may fall in the first and last line under certain circumstances. If Nadi Kuta is not present on the basis of the Nakshatras, then the same may be reckoned taking into account the Nakshatra Padas. Thus, the different quarters will be governed by the three humours (Nadis) thus: Aswini 1 Aswini 2 Aswini 3 Bharani 2 Bharani 1 Aswini 4 Bharani 3 Bharani 4 Krittika 1 Krittika 4 Krittika 3 Krittika 2 Rohini 1 Rohini 2 Rohini 3 Beginning from Aswini 1, the counting should be done forwards and backwards in threes, as given above. The unit ascribed for this Kuta is 8. (eight) In the example considered above, both the constellations fall in the middle line and hence Nadi Kuta is completely absent, no score. Appendix 1 gives a table for measuring the agreement units. In the first column, longitudinal, the constellations of the bride are given. In the first horizontal column the boys Nakshatra is given. Take the figure in the column where the girl's and boys stars intersect. Suppose the boy's star is Mrigasira 1, the Rasi being Taurus. The girl's star is Satabhishakam 2, Rasi being Kumbha (Aquarius). Running down our eye from Taurus, Mrigasira 2 (horizontal 1st column) to the horizontal line of Satabhishakam 4, Kumbha we find the figure 26.5 as the total units of agreement. 2. Rasi Kuta: (7) Happiness, auspiciousness and harmony in marriage Principle 1: The male born in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Rasis from that of the female should not enter into wedlock. If both have the same Janma Rasi, marriage can only be done provided both are not of the same Janma Nakshatra. This means that the Janma Rasi of the man should not be in the Adrisya portion from the Janma Rasi from the woman. From any sign, the Adrisya (Invisible half) are the Lagna (beyond the cusp) to the 7th (before the Cusp), for practical purpose this can be taken as 2nd to 6th. Madhavacharya has given more specific effect of the placement of the male’s Janma rasi in the unfavorable positions from the females Janma rasi. They are as follows: 2nd: Loss of Money 3rd: Sorrow 4th: Quarrels and Misunderstanding 5th: Loss of Children 6th: Diseases, Danger and Separation Principle 2: Along with the placement mentioned above, the placement in the 8th and 12th from the Janma rasi of the Women is not favorable. This is understandable, that the Dusthana placement of the man’s rasi from that of women’s cannot be favorable for conjugal happiness as they would either be inimical or indifferent from each other. Principle 3: Even if the lords of the man’s and woman’s rasis are foe, if they are 7th from each other, this can be accepted as very good. Riders: 1. If the Janma Rasi is of the male is not in a favorable place from the Janma Rasi of the Female, the blemish can be reduced, if the lord of those rasis are mutually friendly. However, the blemish intensifies, if the lords are inimically disposed. 2. When the women is born in an odd Janma Rasi, then the man born in the 6th and 8th there from can be taken as an optional measure. If she is born in even Janma Rasi, the man born in the 6th should be rejected and the 8th can be accepted. 3. If the Janma Rasi of both the man and women have vasya and do not have vedha, then the 6th and 8th position of the man’s rasi from the woman’s one can be accepted. We shall study the vasya and vedha dosha later 4. Harihara does not attach much blemish to the 3rd and 4th house positions for the Janma Rasi of the male from that of the female as this shall neither indicate poverty, nor serious quarrels leading to estrangement nor loss of children. Sorrow is a part and parcel of human birth and this should not be taken as a criterion for marriage dissolution. 5. The same Janma Rasi is allowed as long as the couples don’t have the same Janma Nakshatra. However, if they happen to be the same, marriage is permissible provided it is not Jyestha, Moola, Purva-ashadha, Pushya, Aslesha, Magha, Hasta, Rohini, Dhanistha, Shatabhisaj, Ardra or Bharani.
