Description

University of Missouri2012-2013 Graduates Master of Health Administration Master of Science, Health Informatics Department of Health Management and Informatics www.hmi.missouri.edu Dear Colleagues: Welcome and thank you for your interest in our educational programs and our students! We are again preparing another graduating class to carry the skills and values they have acquired through hard work and discipline to serve the needs of health care organizations and their stakeholders. Each class brings intelligence and energy to the task, and this year’s graduating class is equal to the challenge of upholding the standard set by those who have gone before them. Sadly, the Class of 2013 and the HMI family have also experienced the tragic loss of a classmate, student, and friend, Aditi Avhad. We carry Aditi in our hearts and strive to maintain the standard of excellence, service, and friendship she exemplified. An integral part of the HMI mission is the support of the University of Missouri Health System’s and the School of Medicine’s mission to improve the health of Missourians while being a leader in the health care field. To this end, HMI has been involved in research on the efficiency of delivering health care, improvements in quality of health care through health informatics, and quality improvement projects in which our students participate. I would like to make a special mention of our students’ involvement with the HMI teaching mission. In 2012, HMI students approached the department leadership to suggest improvements in the teaching of health management and informatics. HMI leadership then asked students to organize these suggestions, which they did in a very positive way, for HMI education programs. We then created the Education and Student Services Quality Improvement Group, comprised of students and faculty, to discuss and implement the improvement recommendations. We are pleased to emphasize the effectiveness of our educational programs in preparing the future generation of health managers and health informaticians in Missouri. In 2011, we graduated 38 MHA (17 executive and 21 residential), 14 MHI (8 executive and 6 residential) and granted 17 Health Informatics certificates (4 executive stand alone and 13 residential MHA students). An estimated 100% of these HMI graduates from MHA and MSHI programs were employed in the health care field approximately three months after graduating. We are proud of the educational programs offered by the HMI Department: • Master of Health Administration (MHA) • Executive Master of Health Administration (MHA) • Master of Science in Health Informatics (MS) • Executive Master of Science in Health Informatics (MS) • Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics • Graduate Certificate in Health Ethics This year’s Resume Book profiles students who will graduate in the 2012—2013 academic year. I would be happy to speak with you further about our students and academic programs. Eduardo J.
