TOLERANCE STANDARDPrepared (also subject responsible if other) 1 (7) No. UABUKR 1034-012 Uen Approved Checked EAB/FJB/GR (T. Andersson) Date Rev 2014-05-19 G Reference SURFACE APPEARANCE Abstract This describes a method for specifying limiting values for tolerance requirements of surface appearance in the product specification and with reference to LZT 142 0001 (reference standard) for evaluation distance. The test method is not described here. It is described in 1729-505. Application Used for flat surfaces of: • not surface coated metals, except sand cast surfaces • painted surfaces • metal plated surfaces • anodized surfaces • plastic mouldings surfaces Use for other surfaces: Specifying requirements for other surfaces for which this method is not directly applicable due to the geometry. For example surfaces specified as concave or convex where the distance and light conditions will wary may need an additional specific instruction for how to handle the inspection distance and light conditions. Contents 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 General Tolerance notation Tolerance requirements Inspection of surface appearance References Reference standard reproduction Annex 2 2 3 5 5 6 7 The reference standard is reproduced in section 6. 0. B. The evaluation distance for a specified quality grade is the distance where in a line pair the line having the larger letters can be read but not the line having the smaller letters. By the use of the reference standard for definition of the evaluation distance differences in visual acuity of different observers are balanced. 2. The letter A denotes requirements of the general condition of the surface. Note that the original reference standard LZT 142 0001 shall be used for inspection not the reproduction. The letter B requirements with reference to weld marks etc.5A1 (half of the evaluation distance for quality grade 1 shall apply) . A4.TOLERANCE STANDARD Prepared (also subject responsible if other) 2 (7) No. Examples of tolerance notations. Several quality grades of surface appearance exist corresponding to different evaluation distance. 2 TOLERANCE NOTATION Tolerance for surface appearance is indicated on the product specification (drawing) by a combined letter and number code. See also clause 3. 2. Example.2 QUALITY GRADE The quality grade notation by the numbers 1 to 7 where the number 1 to 7 refer to the corresponding pair of lines on the reference standard LZT 142 0001. The specified number defines the evaluation distance that shall be applied. The letter D requirements apply for corrosion on cut edges of pre-treated sheet steel. C and D. UABUKR 1034-012 Uen Approved Checked EAB/FJB/GR (T. A4B5 A multiple in the notation implies that the corresponding increase or decrease of the evaluation distance shall be applied. The letters shall be given in alphabetical order followed by the quality grade. Andersson) 1 Date Rev 2014-05-19 G Reference GENERAL Surface appearance refers in this instruction to an aesthetic concept and to the occurrence of disturbing surface defects caused in processing and handling.
