Qatar Petroleum and GSO Coating Standards /Specifications for Oil and Gas IndustryOGP Coating Standards Workshop OGP Office - London – UK 10 – 11/6/2008 Muayad Ajjawi - Qatar Petroleum Overview QATAR PETROLEUM (QP)   Qatar Petroleum (QP), formerly called Qatar General Petroleum Corporation, is a state-owned corporation established, by the Emiri Decree No. : 10, in 1974.   Responsible for all phases of oil and gas industry in Qatar, including exploration and drilling for hydrocarbon substances, production, refining, transport, storage, sale and export of the aforementioned substances and their derivatives and by- products. QATAR PETROLEUM (QP) Overview   The operations and activities of QP are conducted at various onshore locations, as well as offshore areas including Halul Island, offshore production stations, drilling platform and North Gas Field.   Qatar Petroleum’s Qatar hydrocarbon products are produced mainly from Onshore Dukhan Field and offshore oil fields (Bul Hanine and Maydan Mahzam) and North Gas Field.   Qatar Petroleum’s strategy of conducting hydrocarbon exploration and new projects is through Exploration and Production Sharing Agreements (EPSA) and Development and Production Sharing Agreements (DPSA) concluded with major international oil and gas companies. QATAR OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY   Currently, there is a great emphasis on the development of the large non-associated gas reserves of North Field. The North Gas Field with total gas recoverable about 900 trillion standard cubic feet (tscf), is considered to be the largest single nonassociated gas reservoir in the world, covering an area of 6,000 square kilometers.   Qatar Petroleum is committed to utilizing the latest technology and to improve the recovery of oil and gas reserves through the application of well established, state-of-the-art technology as captured within international and industry standards. Coating Standards for Oil & Gas Industry Most Commonly Used Coating Formulations - Epoxy Based Coatings (Zinc or MIO pigmented) - Polyurethane Based Coatings - Poly amide Based Coatings - Glass flake based coatings - Fiber Glass based coatings - Rubber based coatings Main Tape Wrapping Types - Heat shrink sleeves - Cold/hot applied polyethylene/ polypropylene Lining Main Types - Fiber-glass/glass-flake - Cement Lining (Granite Lining) - High Density Poly Ethylene Pipeline Coatings - Coal Tar Enamel Coating - Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coating - Three Layers High Density Polyethylene Coatings - Concrete Weight Coating for sub-sea/offshore External Coatings in the Oil Industry -Summary Buried Pipelines: Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) - < 80-85 deg. C. Tape Wrap (PVC + Bitumous backing) - < 60-70 deg. C. Sub-sea Pipelines: FBE or Coal Tar Enamel + Weight Coat. (Coal Tar Enamel - < 60-70 deg. C) Jackets: Coal Tar Epoxy (Splash Zone also but now consider high build epoxy cladding – 3mm +). Topsides: Zn rich primer/epoxy build coats/acrylic urethane finish. Internal Coatings in the Oil Industry -Summary •  •  Tubular: Phenolic modified epoxy (heat cured) – 150 deg. C+. Separators: Glass flake reinforced vinyl esters/polyesters - < 80-85 deg. C. >85 deg. C amine adduct cured epoxies.
